Baby taking 5 hours to put down to bed

It takes us from 7 pm to sometimes 1:30 am to put our baby down to sleep. We rock her, feed her, bounce her to sleep, she falls asleep, as soon as we lower her into the cot she's awake and screaming. We have other children so it's very stressful! Goes down fine in the day, it's only at night. It's bizarre. Doesn't matter how much day sleep she has, it doesn't affect it. We've tried leaving the wake window longer after her last nap, we've tried shortening it etc. nothing works 🥲. Please tell me someone else has gone through this and has words of wisdom. TIA

Wow 5hrs, I'm so sorry!! We are experiencing a similar regression, but id say the worst took 3hrs. Our LG just hates sleeping night or day. I think the first nap is okay but after that it's a nightmare, crying before every nap or sleep. 😅 I've checked she isn't too warm and fed, teething granuals, reduced her nap times (limit them to an hr each now). According to Huckleberry there's just a downward trend of how many hours she's sleeping. So I'm pretty sure it's a normal regression. Just need to ride it out. She's down to 10.5hrs sleep from 13.

Ah, it's so frustrating isn't it!? She's been having a regression of some sort since end of march, so this phase doesn't seem to have an end.

Do you use any white noise etc at night time?

@Cerys yeah, we use white noise and have tried turning it off, too

I’m going through similar. My little boy just doesn’t want to sleep in his cot at night. He’ll be fast asleep on me snoring I’ll put him down and he’s screaming then try again and it’s the same wakes as soon as I put him down

We had the same this past week where she wouldn’t be put down and would just cry/wake up every time. We had to hold her sleeping for an hour or so first and even then it didn’t always work. We actually had to co-sleep for a few nights but then last night she went down and slept in her cot all through the night (woke up every couple of hours for feeds but back into cot) , same again tonight. (Slept on someone for a while first) No words of wisdom other than hope that it could just be a short phase?

@Kirsty yes sounds exactly the same! She'll feed through the night maybe once but can be put down absolutely fine. It's just the initial bedtime it's so so odd

@Helena yes sounds very similar. We've sometimes held her for hours first but it doesn't matter if it's minutes or hours, as soon as we put her in the cot she wakes and screams 😭. Yes, I'm hoping it's a phase but this is a phase that's now going on 6 weeks! 🥴

This was happening to us and now when I put her down I have as much of my body touching her as possible. She’ll often cry out and I just keep my hands/chest on her (I’m like half hanging over the bars of the cot 😂) she usually calms down quickly and is fine. I think it’s just the shock of being in your arms and then not…not sure if that works or she would have gotten better anyways but now that’s how I put her down at bedtime

We have this but for daytime naps, weirdly bedtime is fine 🤔 I've given in and just allow contact naps but appreciate that's easier in the day than night! I don't know what the answer is but hopefully it's a phase that'll pass quickly for you xx

@Allie I do this too but nothing works for her sadly 🥲. I did that with my first baby and he would settle but not this one! She's not calmed by anything except being held 😭

@Rhianna it's so odd isn't it. I hope your baby settles through the day to give you a bit of time to yourself ❤️

Have you tried putting baby down in your bed instead of the cot?

@Melissa we have a tempur mattress so I'm not sure it would be safe to do that unfortunately

Have you tried a floor bed? We had this everytime we put baby down in the cot he’d wake up! Now we have a mattress on the floor, I lay next to him whilst he falls asleep and then sneak out! So much easier to get out without waking them whereas putting them in the cot can startle and wake them up 🙄 Even get the cot mattress out and just lay half on it with them or on the floor next to it with your arm over to cuddle them and wait 5-10 minutes, gently lift your arm off and run 😉
