Newborn and in-laws

Question for all… My in-laws live abroad and are planning on a trip around the time our second little one is due to arrive. They need to know ASAP if we want them here to visit (they did not say help or hinted to helping at all)to change their flight. I said yes! But they responded with “are you sure? Is your ped ok with that since the baby is going to be only days old?” What would you respond with?

Do you want them to help? Since you added that sounds like what you’re expecting and that’s 1000% okay if you expect that.

If you want the help then absolutely. If you're worried about any germies they may pick up while flying have them wear a mask around baby for a few days.

You have the right to set rules and expectations. If you’re to sensitive right now because you have other things on your mind and don’t want to get into completely fair to blame the Ped Doc. Also if you’re plan on breastfeeding or even exclusively pumping youre in for a rude awakening 🤣 your tits need to be out because they will be so raw and saline and fresh air is what helps it heal so you can keep going.

If you don’t want to be confrontational you can always say “Absolutely we’d love some extra hands around the house to help with the impending chaos of a newborn, we just ask that xyz (any germ / sanitation rules you might have since they’re coming from out of country)

Most likely they will help. But you will know once they get here and that can determine when you want them to visit or stay with you the next time they come. But honestly it’s nice to have other ppl around for your older child so he doesn’t feel left out when the baby comes. My mom usually comes when the baby is born and she would play with my older son so I can focus on the baby and he didn’t ever feel left out bc he had other ppl around to give him attention. I think if you end up do needing help I would have your husband tell them or ask to help out a little.
