Sleep cycles and wake windows. Need a simple explanation of what they are! I have recently been reading a lot about baby sleep cycles and people tracking their wake windows. I feel like I’m abit lost on what they are?

I know it sounds silly that I’m not fully understanding them. Baby is a great sleeper at night mostly , and we follow the same routine mainly to get to sleep through and in the morning. But for the rest of the day, I follow her lead on things when she’s tired. ( I try to prevent any further naps after 4.30 pm if I can) but that’s my only routine with sleep. Do I need to be more aware of wake windows? And how often is everyone else’s babies sleeping for in the day? How much is too little or long? X

If what you’re doing is working, I’d highly suggest not going down that rabbit hole. It’s mostly for us who have ‘bad’ sleepers and are desperately trying things to get them to sleep better haha. Enjoy the freedom of not having to track and obsess over wake windows.

It sounds like whatever you’re doing is working and baby is sleeping so I wouldn’t get too hung up on the ins and outs of it 😊 I think in general they say at this age wake windows can range between 2-3 hours and they need 3-4 naps a day. My little girl flits between 3-4 naps but I just go off how she is, I’m not making her stay awake for 3 hours if she’s tired. Her naps tend to range from a total of 2.5-3.5 hours a day. Also when we’re out and about she might just fall asleep in the car which is out of my control so I just go with the flow. My little girl is 5 months and 2 weeks for reference x

Thank you!!
