Starting real food

Has anyone started giving their baby any kind of real food yet? My baby will be 4 months on the 20th of this month and I’ve heard mixed things. I’ve heard not to give your baby real food until 6 months and then I’ve heard you can give your baby cooked pears, apples, carrots, things like that from 3 months. I’m so excited to introduce new things to my LO but I want to do it when it’s safe and he’s developed enough because I’ve also heard if you give your baby food too early they can develop IBS later in life.

My son was cleared at his 4 month visit, but I won't until 6 months.

I think it depends on your baby. There are schools of thought to not give them food until a year old even!! From my research , we’ve decided to wait until he can at least Tripod sit. This supposedly signals his abdominals and digestive muscles are ready for food. But I know adults who were given food really early and are totally fine. My husband was given food at 2 or 3 mos and does have digestive issues … so who knows! I think you just have to read your baby and do what feels right. We’re also days away from a tripod sit too. Whereas i assumed that would happen after 6 months and we’re even trying to slow him down a bit. I don’t want him to speed through milestones developmentally either.

It's definitely tricky. Check out the Solid Starts website and Instagram. Even if you don't do baby led weaning, they are a great resource for feeding tips, food information, and picky eating strategies ☺️

Six months :)

Usually pediatricians say 4 months or when they show interest in foods. Mine will be 4 months on the 14th, and I’ve let her lick some stuff bc lord knows, she thinks she’s ready 😂 But I plan on doing a little bit of purées once we’re cleared, and more solid foods for BLW around 6. I like doing it slowly and build up foods
