UK only…Do you tip at the hairdressers?

For example a cut at my local London (albeit chosen) salon is £85 including wash and dry but just a simple trim. Would you leave a tip for this? It takes less than an hour. My gut says no it’s already expensive a lot but please drop your thoughts in the comments.

I almost choked on the price I can get a balayage including cut and style For £75 in Northern Ireland 😦

I don’t usually but last time I went to this woman who had just started doing it self employed from her home, she was really nice and her pricing seemed cheap so I did say keep the change and she got £5 tip.

It depends on the service and the end result honestly. If when I'm finished I love it and it doesn't require me to play with it yes! If I've had to wait around a lot No But 85 for a wash and trim not even a restyle is daylight robbery I'm so glad my friends a qualified stylist.

I really use to tip...but the prices in London are now crazy to the point I get my hair done maybe twice a year..

I don’t tip my hairdresser because it’s her own business but when I’ve been to other salons I would always tip the stylist and whoever washed my hair. I used to work on the reception in a salon and knew the pay structure, they would get like 33% of what they charged so unless they had back to back clients all day, they weren’t earning great. Buuut that was nearly 20 years ago so a cut was about £30 and not £80 😂🫣

I don’t tip but that’s because it’s my sister so obviously it’s a bit different but I do think if I used any other salon I would leave a small tip

Thanks all! I could defo go cheaper but I’ve spent years trying to find a stylist I have a good rapport with so have to suck it up…I think perhaps I should branch out into some colour work to make a trip worthwhile 😅 But also I find it hard to stomach to spend any more at this price! I totally get the at home job tipping etc.

I used to be a hairdresser and we were worked like dogs for minimum wage wage. Tips were always massively appreciated even £5. £85 is a lot for a cut and blow dry but maybe have a look at a different level stylist that’s a bit more affordable Most of the money goes to the salon very little actually goes to the stylist so maybe even see if you can get someone to do it at home cheaper, but with the stylist it is a skill they’ve learned and studied for years and perfected through training and courses, not anyone just do it which is why it’s not cheap

I don't tip. I use a lady who has her own business and I'm happy to make her lunch, tea, snacks, etc when she's over and working but the hair cut and colour is expensive (and worth every penny). In the salon I also wouldn't tip as they'd bounce you around different stylists through the whole process.

Hell no that’s extortionate lol. I have tipped 10% at the hairdressers if it’s like £30 but no way would I tip if it was £85

No. I pay the set price. It’s already expensive and they’re paid a fair wage for their services the same as everyone else

I used to but everything is so expensive I don’t bother now. I pay via Treatwell so it’s not awkward when I leave

At the beginning I used to until I noticed it is not part of the customs, so I stopped. I have been searching for someone amazing but still on the look. They do a good job, but not out of the ordinary and their prices are high.

No, unless its an apprentice/trainee then I'll tip them minimum wage for however many hours it took xx
