I don’t get an annual bonus but we have bonuses for some of the managers of our locations and they earned based on specific factors and they have bonus plans. Is the annual bonus just something they give you or is it part of a contract?

Personally it seems a little messed up for them to prorate a bonus because of maternity leave unless it is part of the terms of the bonus.

They said it’s based on earned income and because they didn’t pay me during leave they are counting based on 75% of my yearly income :/

Also they never mentioned this before! I found out today when I got my bonus letter and I was surprised to see they calculated based on 75% of my income

At my company We’re only eligible for a bonus for the “compulsory” part of mat leave so in the UK that’s the first 2 weeks, the other 50 weeks available are considered optional and so not eligible. I sort of get it because I’m not actively contributing to the profits of the business while I’m on leave but I was a bit annoyed about it too

It mostly depends on the company and how closely they follow the compulsory pay laws within your state. Siobhan’s above were reduced whereas mine weren’t and we both reside in the same city. I would ask your company to provide the relevant legislation and parts of your contract / employee handbook so you can check and understand it better. I imagine it’s very common.

You get an annual bonus?? That sounds nice
