Jaundice mamas

Mamas who’s babies had severe cases of jaundice what did it look like? We had our first doctors appointment today after giving birth and at birth my sons levels were low and he was slightly yellow in the face and had yellow eyes, my paranoia is getting the best of me and even though the doctor said not to worry he’s looking good I’m panicked! I don’t want my baby to end up in the hospital for the light therapy but know to take him in if necessary! I guess I’m just looking for references of what your babies looked like if they needed the light therapy thank you!

My second baby almost needed to get admitted due to jaundice. We had to go to the hospital i think every other day to test his levels, but make sure to keep him in indirect sunlight and feed him as much as possible. It's important to keep him well fed to push out the jaundice, the sun acts as natural blue light therapy. The poor thing looked completely yellow for like a week before he started getting better 😭

@Annika was he yellow all over? My son is just his face and eyes his levels were low in the hospital and the doctors weren’t concerned, I’m just paranoid because my first never had jaundice

Yeah, it started in his face and eyes but started moving down to his torso and arms a bit. It's good his numbers are still low! The sun and tons of feedings will hopefully help to keep it low! My sons pediatrician had me continue to wake him up throughout the night to feed as well.

@Tara Awee poor baby!! We’re hoping to avoid the light therapy but know it’s necessary if needed

@Annika yes we’ve been waking him through the night and he’s pooping not as much as I’d like but he is having dirty diapers! Definitely gonna give him some sun time today! Thank you so much for the advice!

Hey mama! My son was born with jaundice and he did have to do the light therapy. And let me start off by saying yes it’s scary but I promise it’s not as scary as it seems! My son got put into the incubator and only came out for diaper changes or feedings, that was the hardest part was not holding my baby unless it was necessary. But after a day of being in the hospital his levels went down and we could take him home! It’s hard if they do need the light therapy but again I promise it’s just a small thing that you’ll hardly think about later ❤️ doesn’t make it any less scary to you in the moment I know but you both will get through it 🫶🏻
