Hello all!
Hope you and your pregnancies and children are all doing well 🌻
I had my first blood test results back yesterday and everything was fine but my TSH was 5.9. The doctor was very relaxed and said it wasn’t at all extreme and put me on 50mg of L-Thyroxine. I started them today which is the first day of week 7.
It’s my first pregnancy and I’ve never had thyroid issues before so, whilst the doctor was very chill, I can’t help but be a bit worried. Naturally (and perhaps stupidly) I googled it when I got home and saw all the worst case scenarios of the baby being at risk for developmental and cognitive issues so I’ve got myself in a bit of a tiz wondering if I’m too late sorting out the issue etc 🙈
Anyone willing to share their experiences would be listened to most gratefully. Wishing you all the best! 🌻🕊️

I have hypothyroidism as well. Ive only seen baby development issues when the numbers are really really high. (Double digits high) once baby placenta takes over the hormones affect baby less.

Ok that’s very reassuring to hear. I was feeling so calm and relaxed until getting that blood test result and it’s really knocked me for six as I’ve been so anxious ever since. Hopefully the meds will do their work though and the baby will be ok 🙏🏼💪🏼

I had serve thyroid problems with all mine and all my babies been healthy and no issues x

Oh that’s really great to hear and I’m very happy for you and your babies ☺️ It’s always a bit of a shock when you’re not expecting to hear something, like having an anomaly in a blood test, but I feel very relieved by your comment so thank you! Xx

Hello, I am in the exact same boat. I’m currently 9 weeks pregnant and my THS was 6.4 from my initial bloods and I have also been put on 50 mg. My doctor referred me to a specialist at our local hospital who will be with me through the remainder of my pregnancy just to ensure my levels and dosages remain managed. The woman was really reassuring and said as long as I keep getting regular check ups (monthly bloods) and keep taking my medication, we shouldn’t be at any higher risk than any other mama. risks usually come with higher readings and unmanaged conditions.
I hope this reassures you! I’m from the UK and they do offer us extra baby scans and checks to monitor babies growth just incase x

Hi Kerry! Thanks so much for messaging, I really appreciate it and it’s definitely reassuring ☺️ I’m also really glad to hear that you’re getting the right treatment and that they’re monitoring you and your baby so well! I’m a Brit living in Belgium and they seem quite thorough here too, thankfully. Had my bloods taken today by a haematologist at the hospital and the results on 50 mg were good - my THS is now down from 5.9 to around 3.5 in just 1.5 weeks! Hopefully you’ll also see some positive results from your meds too ☺️🤞🏼I’ve got my first visit with the gynaecologist on Friday so hopefully she will also propose monthly blood tests and checks to keep an eye on it too 🤞🏼 Feel free to keep in touch about your journey with it all if you’d like and thanks again ☺️ xx

Girls, starting dose of Levo is 75 mcg. It should be calculated 1.6 per kg your weight. 50 mcg is a pediatric dose is not enough
