So it depends a lot on your budget and how far you want to go with photography. A good base camera with a stock lens can easily be upgraded later on with fancier lenses, but a nice lens won't make a bad base camera any better. I love my Canon rebel, but tbh the basic inexpensive Canon isn't as good as the inexpensive nikon (and I've always been a canon girl) when you get into blowing up the images to larger sizes. You can shoot in raw to fix that to an extent, but then you're dealing with massive image sizes that take up a ton of space. If you're planning on going a little higher end, canon imo beats nikon, but the entry level cameras, nikon wins. My suggestion would be look on Facebook marketplace or at a used gear shop and find a used camera, play with it for a bit to get a sense of what features you want/dont use/need to be better and go from there! You'll also be able to judge what additional lenses you may want without dishing out thousands of dollars from the start

@Kelsey hey girl aw thank you did this, very insightful Do you mind if I dm you with a few questions?

I’d say to rent different kinds of cameras from your local camera store first that way you can play around & see which you like before making an investment into a camera & lens.

You can also use your phone for amazing professional looking photos, if you learn how to use portrait mode- that blurs the background and makes it look really good. I take amazing photos w my iPhone.
