Hairdressers - is it normal to straighten someone's hair BEFORE you cut it?

Went to new hairdressers and she straightened my hair beforehand (natural is basically Hagrids lol) and she put a fringe in on the basis I could tuck it behind my ears and now it's too short because she's straightened it? Is this a normal thing? I've never had this happen before 😂

I don't know if it is normal and I am not a hairdressers but I always ask my hairdresser to cut my hair after they have straightened it because I too have hagrid hair so will not leave the house unless I have straightened it 🤣

Some do because they find it easier but I know for natural/curly hair it’s better to be trimmed in full fluff

The hairstylists ive been to its normal. I prefer my hair straightened before trims to get a more even cut and all the split ends gone. However if you wear your hair curly majority of the time and dont care about an even cut you should get a "curly cut".

I think the mixed answers are pretty accurate as it really depends on both the curl type and the stylist. Sometimes it’s easier to straighten hair to achieve a more accurate cut, but the stylist should always be considerate of how it will look once it returns to its natural texture. It seems like she miscalculated here so I’d definitely ask for the hair to be cut in its natural state next time. They can still apply products that will make it easier to handle without applying heat.

I got a long bob and she straightened it to make sure it would look even wavy or straight.

no. your hair should be wet not straightened. If you want to achieve a full even cut then you have your client stand up that’s all.

@Amber coily hair should absolutely at least be blow dried for cuts, your stylist was right (: idk about any other hair types though

If you normally straighten your hair, like you wear it straight most of the time, it's normal since they want to make sure it looks good in the way you wear it most often. If you don't straighten your hair often then no they shouldn't straighten it first.

Was it a dry cut? Or wet cut, then blow dried and they trimmed some more after?
