pancakes will be your best friend! anything can go into a pancake and they’re so quick and easy to make and can be frozen for batch cooking! they can also be sweet or savour too, so pretty versatile. some of our favourite pancake recipes are: - cheese and bean - cheese and tomato - strawberry and banana - blueberry and banana - cinnamon - vanilla - chocolate chip - pea and spinach when weaning my girl i just tried to give her a bit of what i would eat but in finger slices so she could hold them and they wouldn’t be a chocking hazard x
@Ebony this is so helpful, thank you 🤩
@taz aw pancakes sound great! will give some of these a try 💖
@Lorna no worries. Our first tastes where blueberries and broccoli. She's just turned 1 and has only just started to like blueberries 😂 just because they don't like it once doesn't mean they'll hate it forever. Keep trying them with it. It's all new and they've not tried enough food to know what they do or don't like. Honestly it's fun and messy all at the same time and often requires you to get creative with meals
Start with 1 food a day and start with the allergens first, as you want to get these out of the way! So that's egg, milk, seeds (hummus could be one), shellfish, fish, wheat, peanut etc. Don't introduce anything else that day, as then u can watch for a reaction. Don't start with fruit either, start with veggies as u don't want your baby's sweet taste buds to be activated too much at this stage! My baby is almost 1 and we've done BLW since 6 months, she now eats almost anything!
Ooo, and get yourself a really good recipe book, such as "what mummy makes" by Rebecca Wilson, its brilliant and I still use all the time now 🙂
Start with foods high in Iron, zinc and Vitamin c as our breastmilk does not provide what their bodies now require 😊 e.g bone marrow, egg, lamb cutlet, broccoli, liver or liver pates, meat broth (not bone broth)
If you are exclusively BLW I would introduce baby to meals you are already eating, it's all about taste, texture, exploration and fun. Curate a palate inline with your household. Solid starts is such a helpful tool. https://solidstarts.com/foods/?page=1
I used this weaning chart which I found really helpful to make sure I was giving my LO a variety of foods. I actually date in the circles rather than tick so I can see when he’s had what so he’s not having the same thing everyday. Then each week I plan out my meals for him (or a rough idea) and pick a few things to put together in a meal for him. It’s essentially helpful for tracking allergens too. I try not to overthink it with making fancy things, especially at this age so will just select a few couple of things he’s not had recently and give him them and he loves it. Hope this helps! https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1883715605/?ref=share_ios_native_control
For the first week just do 1 meal like lunch that's more food than milk. It's about taste and texture so pick a thing for it like toast or blueberries. You don't want to mix just yet as your learning about allergies at the same time so keep it simple. Baby porridge and baby rice don't hold any nutritional value but are good for first textures and for exploring taste. You can mash up berries and bananas and add to it for tastes. For baby porridge personally I'd just use normal porridge oats blitzed into an oat flour type consistency (it's cheaper and doesn't have lots of random bits added to it). Most importantly have fun with it! My biggest piece of advice is "if they're red let them go ahead. If they're blue it's up to you" this is how you remember when to interven with coughing and chocking. Hope this all helps ❤️
