The week after my son turned 2 we took him to build-a-bear and he put his dummy in the bear and that was the end of the dummy 😄 My son only had it at bedtime so I thought it was gonna be a nightmare to take away but after the first night he was fine, like he’d never even had a dummy before! My son had also been going to the dentist every 6 months since he had his first tooth and they never had a bad thing to say about his teeth so although they recommend weaning your son off it, the timing is up to you (of course depending on if there’s no major issues to the development of his teeth or mouth structure)
I went cold turkey at 1, he only had it for sleep times and he would often spit it out after he fell asleep so I just found a new way to help him get to sleep without it. It took a bit longer to get him to sleep for the first couple days but after that he was ok! I had taken him to the dentist and they advised to wean him off before he was 3 as that’s when the jaw/teeth sets into position so before then their jaw/teeth move so if it’s starting to effect his mouth shape you have time for it to readjust - that’s what they told me anyway.
Ahhh my LO is 16 months and currently relying on it for comfort as she’s struggling with some painful teeth coming through so I’m not ready to give it up yet 😅
My sons 19 months and had it mainly at home and bed, I’m kinda waiting for the awful tantrums to pass before I take it off him as it keeps him calm🤦🏻♀️ it probably would be more manageable if I wasn’t pregnant and hormonal
My oldest has the most beautiful teeth and before he was 2 we sent him a letter from the dummy fairy asking if he would give them up for the baby dragons and we left them in the garden when he was two and they left him a present ..he never asked for them. He only had them at bedtime and within seconds of him being asleep they’d fall out of his mouth 😂
Sent it to Santa at 2 and a bit. Got a present in return. She asked for it for a couple of nights and then wasn't fussed.
