My inlaws came to the hospital the next day. And then they didnt come by until about a week of us being home. My bestfriend also saw baby day she was born as she was in the hospital with me. Everyone else? They didnt meet her until she was almost 10 weeks old. They needed their whooping cough vaccine, their rsv, & flu vaccine. Most people met her when she was closer to 4mths old.
6 weeks pp my in laws visited very quickly. Noone came before 6 weeks pp
Only their grandparents can visit them before three months everyone else can wait till after the newborn phase. It goes by too fast and I get too overwhelmed postpartum.
Grandparent came after delivery but after that I gatekept my baby until 6 months. Kept it for me and my husband for serious bonding. Then introduced new faces at 6 months starts the phase of learning familiar faces vs strangers. My husband took his leave during this time to help strengthen their bond and familiarity. & family is raving about how calm and well mannered he is at 11m. I really think that helped reduced any sort of anxiety and increase trust. But also could be a fluke đź«
After 6 weeks seems sensible. You need time to bond and adjust
We had a constant stream of visitors from day 1 with my first baby. I didn’t mind too much but it was exhausting. But most of our visitors were helpful, didn’t stay for long and didn’t mind if I wasn’t around (I took naps etc and took advantage of their visit!) For my second I waited a couple of days apart from my mum.
We had visitors twice a day for the first few weeks. I liked it. The deal was they had to get in touch and book in before coming. Nobody was allowed to just turn up. Meant we had time as a family and people visited at a time she'd be awake for a bit.
My siblings and my mom and my brother in laws and MIL and FIL all met my son within the first 4 days pp but no one stayed very long when visiting . Extended family didn’t meet my son for probably another month or so but we normally only see them at get togethers anyway.
