Work life in pregnancy

Hi ladies,
I started a new job just over month ago, and a few days later I found out I was pregnant. I’m now 9 weeks and it’s been a mix of excitement and nerves—especially with the timing being so soon after starting.

I’m not quite ready to share the news at work yet, but I’m curious… how long did you wait before telling your employer or colleagues? And how did you manage the early symptoms (especially the tiredness and nausea) while keeping it quiet?

Would really appreciate hearing your experiences and any tips!

I told my boss and colleagues on my qualifying week 15 weeks before due date so would of been 25 week and was luckily not too effected at the start of my pregnancy with little vomiting so I would just say I need a wee with tiredness I just worked through it though!

I was in this same position last year! It really depends on your employer. I work for a really great employer, so I told them I was pregnant when I was 12 weeks, but I wish I would have told them sooner. They were very accommodating to help me with my nausea. We had a hybrid work schedule, so on days that I was really sick, they let me work from home even if it was technically an in office work day.

Also if your employer isn’t as accommodating the one thing that helped the most with my morning sickness was unisom. It’s a sleeping pill, so idk why it works but I didn’t vomit anymore once I was taking that. It’s definitely worth asking your doctor/midwife about.

As for tiredness, I rode public transportation to and from work, so I would nap on the bus/train to help me be more awake at work. I had a colleague who was also pregnant and she would find an empty office and nap on her lunch break.

For me I had horrible nausea and vomiting a lot during first trimester so once I go to the point of being sick 2-3x an hour I had to tell someone. But I only told my supervisor who was always on the floor with me and the head of everything and I ask them not to tell anyone.
I went on and eventually worked 3 jobs while pregnant so i became upfront with it more in my second trimester.

literally me rn. i started my new job late march and found out i’m pregnant a week later. i struggled with the fatigue ALOT but my nausea was mild — i’m 11 weeks now and thankfully the nausea has passed on but i’m still always tired 😩 i’m considering telling my boss next week friday though i’m nervous… i’ve always told myself i’d want to tell him on a friday so that i can go hide over the weekend and to help simmer the bomb drop before coming into work again and luckily that following monday will be a holiday so it’s even better. i’m just curious to see how my boss will take the news because my job is very active and requires some movements that i would not be able to do in the long run when i’m further along in my pregnancy.

some days are/were harder than others but i just try my best to thug it out. i also think it’s better to at least show up and ask to leave early if need be than to call out and not show up at all being that we’re still new and trying to make a good impression.
