Definitely before 24 months as it can affect his teeth development even if he’s only using it for sleep. I suggest you talk to your son’s dentist as well and they’ll be able to advise you further.
Weened my baby girl when she got her first teeth in at 10 months! I think before a year is the perfect timing.
Mine still uses for sleep and fussy car rides. I plan to wean when I wean breastfeeding because like you it's a boob to dummy to be able to put him down. We also don't use it every sleep and once it's out, he never puts it back in when waking up. He will take it out and put it in and play with it in the car tho. I can also say at the daycare I work at, most of the kids have one in the year room (like all day long it's scary to me), some have in the 2s room for sleep only. Google says dental issues could start if used after age 2.
I got rid of my sons at 2 he was a late bloomer with his teeth (first tooth at year and a half) so i let him have it for longer, the second it started making his teeth come forward even slightly i got rid of it x he actually adapted well i didnt wean him i just got rid of them all when i saw them
Asap because all I ever see are wean from paci post in my birth group and only because their kids teeth are starting to get pulled forward. Before 1 year seems like s good time. Mine weaned herself at 8-9months when she got her first teeth
As soon as possible. My friend has a 2yo still on a pacifier and it’s negatively impacting his teeth growth. My toddler developed the habit just before 2, had it for like a month and it was so hard to get it away from her. It’s been months since she’s had it now and she will still ask for it sometimes
@Zii mine too! When she's having no a hard or emotional day she asks for it 🥲
I have been looking into this, they (they being a trusted and credible source for child development) typically recommend weaning at 12 months, to just use at sleep time meaning naps and bedtime, and fully take away by age 3. My oldest will be 2 in October and we have kept his strictly for sleep and it stays in his crib.
We stopped at 20 months and didn't have any issues. If we have a second I'll probably do 18 months. It just seems like a good time to me, but anytime before 2 should be fine honestly
I stopped with both mine at 4ish months. With my first I couldn’t find any of hers and it was icy out. She was a little tougher to get to bed that night(like maybe 10 mins longer of soothing) and then she was fine the next day without as well, so we never bought her more. With my youngest around 3mos we only did it at bed time and stopped before 6m. I had friends who had there kid on one for an excessive amount and it was ROUGH to get there boy off it.
I would always say 1 but I’m yet to do it and my LG turned 1 last month. We’re going on holiday next month tho so I’m keeping it for that and then it’s going
Seriously just talk to your pediatric dentist. Kids teeth (up to a certain age) that get pulled forward by a paci/bottle etc., will bounce back to normal/correct themselves after a couple of months. If your little one enjoys his paci and you want to keep it longer, raise these concerns with your child’s dentist and they will tell you exactly when it’s time to get rid of it. My son’s dentist said by age 3, but we did it right before 2nd birthday because as others have mentioned the longer you wait the harder it is for them to give it up.
From experience, do it before 24 months and save yourself the heartache of them asking for it and being super reliant on it 🥲
