Diarrhea?

13 months old The last few days she has been eating less. I assumed as before it was because she has another tooth coming in. During those times she would prefer pouch food over solids. Now she is refusing all her usuals. I made plain pasta last night as a Hail Mary and she ate even less. Also has really leaned into bf again. Today she has had 3 watery but not necessarily full diapers in the last hour. I prepared pedialyte because now I’m concerned about dehydration but she refuses like spitting it out! I just bf her now and she is napping but this is my first D incident. At what point do I need to make a call? What have you all done to make your baby eat?

Same happened to my one year old, doctor recommended no milk at all until it cleared up.. only water/pedialyte, sugar free Gatorade diluted with water & starchy foods.. she had it for about a week or so and it was really bad blow outs going up to her clothes every time

Peds nurse here. Does she have a fever? Is she teething? Because refusing food and loose stools sounds like it. Maybe she would take the pedialyte popsicles. Watch out for wet diapers, if she doesn’t pee much, I would call the doctor right away. Otherwise I would wait until tomorrow afternoon, see if she’s still refusing food/liquids, then go to the doc.

@Laura Hi No fever, yes teething and as of an hour ago projectile vomited all the breast milk (only thing she would take today)but seems fine now. Actively spit out pedialyte 😭 BUT she just started accepting water so I’m pleased. Yes will watch for wet diapers over night. Thank you!

There is a nasty stomach bug going around. My 14 month old has had it twice! Pedialyte, bananas, and crackers got us through it. Good luck, it’s rough!

Asked heal baby care app and sharing in case it helps: "It sounds like you're dealing with a challenging situation, and it's understandable to be concerned about your child's eating and hydration. First, it's important to ensure she stays hydrated, especially with the watery diapers. If she refuses Pedialyte, you might try offering small sips of water or diluted juice in a cup, which can sometimes be more appealing. Additionally, keep an eye on her overall behavior; if she seems lethargic, has a dry mouth, or shows signs of dehydration (like fewer wet diapers), it may be time to consult a healthcare professional. For encouraging eating, try offering small, frequent meals with a variety of textures and flavors, and consider letting her explore food on her own, as this can sometimes spark interest. Have you noticed any other symptoms, like fever or irritability, that could help clarify her condition?"

@Heaven no fever but she was fussy. I ended up taking her to the doctor Wed because she still had D, wouldn’t take anything but bm so no solids for 24 hrs. Dr. confirmed our guess of virus mixed with teething 😖 and to bring her back if symptoms last longer than a week. But she is better now, 😊 eating solids again but in more frequent and smaller quantities and still heavy on bm.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone 😊

@Savannah yes! We are hearing of more cases now so it looks like we got the first wave.
