Hi everyone, I am 38 weeks pregnant and starting to freak out about the fact that if labour starts and everything goes super quick I won’t have time to make it to the hospital as it’s an hour away.
I had my first baby at hospital and planning to have this one there too, but hearing so many stories of how quickly labour progressed the second time I am a bit worried that could happen.
My question is, if I feel like I can’t make it to hospital what are my options? Could I call 999 or triage and have a home birth? Im so lost about what to do in that case so just wondering if anyone has gone through a similar situation and what they did? Thank you, just getting anxious about everything right now 🤣

I don’t know much about home births because all of my pregnancies have been high risk but I’d imagine you’d have already had to have expressed an interest in it. They do a home birth assessment and obviously it all depends on if there is midwives available to come out to you so if it’s a case of things moving very quickly it would potentially still be safer to try and get to the hospital in case there was a delay with getting someone out. Definitely speak to your midwife though and I’m sure she’ll be happy to make a plan with you x

If you don't think you'll make it, you'll have to call an ambulance x

Why not just plan a home birth x

If you’re really concerned than maybe talk to your midwife about planning a home birth and than it’s in place just in case you need it and if you decide to go into hospital and make it than that’s great but at least you’ll have the home birth to fall back on or at least know what to do etc x

Plan a homebirth
If straight forward pregnancy -
Outcomes for baby are the same hospital vrs home
Outcomes for mum are better.
If labouring better to stay at home and call 999 if you can’t make the journey and think baby is coming

You should be able to make it. Just call triage at first signs of labour and go straight in. X
