Hello mamas, my little one (5 and a half months) is struggling with head control. She HATES tummy time so we have to try other methods but she’s still so front heavy with her head and we definitely think she won’t be able to wean at 6 months because of this. Is anyone else in a similar situation?

Not in the same situation but our boy was similar with tummy time, absolutely hated it. The way he developed head control was sitting up. We have a corner sofa and Sot-Me-Up seat for him so he would either sit in the corner of the sofa without falling forward or in his seat. I would also still do tummy time even tho your little one hates it, even if it is 15 seconds.
we’ve been doing this also. Sitting her on the sofa in the corner although she does slouch down 🙈 and we have one of those blow up round cushions with the removable tray that we put her in. I also hold her on my side so she can look around, do tummy time on my legs and try tummy time on the floor. But at almost 6 months I’d have thought she’d be a bit better with her head control and tbh I’m not sure if I should be concerned or not? I know all babies develop at different stages but I’ve not really heard anyone have this issue at this age x

My sons a bit wobbly still he also hates tummy time very similar to my first born and he sat not long after 6months. They both seem to enjoy sitting. At the moment I sit down and sit him in front of me holding his hands and he loves it you can definitely see him working hard to stay upright. If we’re on the bed doing it I let go and let him have a practice he’s stronger each time. I think he’ll be sitting before he can roll! X

How bad is her head control? I would say keep doing what you’re doing and if she reaches 6 months and still struggles I would definitely contact a doctor or health advisor

Our lg was the same (but younger), we were advised by the osteo to carry her round the house in a sitting position and hand over the chest area.. (baby facing out) and often tilting them forwards so they are forced to look up and around. Hope this made sense!
Keep going with tummy time, even if it's 15 seconds. I found doing it over my knees was more tolerated x
thank you! I’ll give that a try ☺️ x
she can lift her head and she can do tummy time but she just doesn’t tolerate it. So she’s often chin to chest but she will look around and hold head up if we’re carrying her. It’s more if she’s in a sitting position she struggles. I’ll see my HV at 6m and mention it then

Yeah definitely mention it if it doesn’t improve and as Becca said carry her around in a sitting position, completely forgot we were doing that too 😄 and if you have a sling carrying her in a front facing position especially outside will help too
thank you for all your suggestions ☺️

Using a carrier parent facing could work! It’s recommended not to do front / world facing until they have head control.
Personally I’d say don’t worry too much about not being able to start solids ‘on the dot’ of six months, it’s still milk until one that’s giving them their main nutrition. She’ll probably surprise you one day and suddenly be sitting absolutely fine! X
thank you. I’ll get her in the carrier a bit more but keep her facing myself x
