Cervical progression

I went for a sweep today at 39+4 and I’m fully closed so they couldn’t do it but said my cervix is thinning and soft which was a good sign.
She said inner was 0 and outer was 1cm and I’m -2 but when I asked what that meant she just fobbed me off and said ‘let’s just say you’re way off and you’ll know if you were in labour’ 🙃
Midwife thinks I won’t go into labour naturally before my induction next Wednesday (21st May).
To anyone who has had this said to them, did you get chance to go into natural labour or did it still not progress?
I know it can change in a matter of hours but I’m starting to feel really disheartened that my midwife just left it as - ‘ah well we’ll be seeing you next Wednesday then’ 🫠

I would honestly try and relax as much as you can about this. Sooo much easier said than done because literally anything could happen. I had a sweep like this but gave birth a few days later but someone else may not have. It’s so hard to say. Best thing you can do is keep as active as possible, do things that make you happy and try not to stress xx

Things can change very very quickly, don’t let it get you down! Warm baths, try adding some lavender to them, and get curb walking🤣

Mine was closed at 40weeks and felt like i was way off but i went naturally 40weeks3days so its possible it can change fast, people who are at any dilation doesn’t mean its going to happen sooner, my midwife told me its not an indicator of whether you go into labour tomorrow or next week x Ik people who were dilated 3cm for weeks before they went into labour

Good luck x i hope you have a smooth delivery

Means nothing because some women walk around 3cm dilated for a month and others do 0-10cm in a few hours. Why not push the induction back?

Exactly what Robin said! I've been pushing my induction back all week now and will keep pushing it back until at least 42 weeks (although I do hope baby decides to arrive before then...) unless something changes and baby isn't happy in there anymore :)

I’m high risk and not allowed to go over 41 weeks so going in for induction if there’s a bed at 40+4 feels okay cause then if there’s any delay I’m not stressed about it.. I’m not too fussed if I have to be induced but I’d just rather go naturally if I can 🙂

Fair enough, hope it happens before Wednesday for you or you have a smooth induction if not 🤞

I’m in the exact same position! Had a sweep yesterday at 39+4 and was told it was unsuccessful but cervix is soft. Midwife said some women still go into labour even after an unsuccessful sweep so don’t lose hope! Booked in for another one on Saturday and induction on Wednesday.
Really hoping I go naturally but being stressed about it isn’t going to help me make any progress 😬
Suffering with awful back ache but managed a short walk and some ball exercises to try and get baby moving down a bit. She is fully engaged and in a great position so just a waiting game.
It’s really disappointing to know the sweep failed but by next weekend you’ll have your baby with you and you’ll have forgotten all about this horrible waiting period. Good luck 💕

I have an induction booked literally a day after you and I'm 41 weeks currently

I had a sweep yesterday and although uncomfortable it seems promising

Right now it's best to stay positive and surround yourself with positive support and stay active

Hope it goes well for the both of us and we meet our babies before the weekend
