Breastmilk

Hi all, if I take frozen milk out the freezer and leave it in the fridge to thaw, how long is it good for? I'm ready different times online so not sure what to follow

My lactation consultant said 24 hours once fully thawed.

I follow the 24 hour rule. I have also read if it’s not fully thawed you can put it back in the freezer.

@Tasha I think that I would be scared to do this. The CDC says absolutely never refreeze previously frozen breast milk so I feel like the milk that had thawed would be bad. I don’t know. Just seems weird, I guess.

It’s not fully thawed (still has ice crystals). It even states it on the cdc website for situations when there is a power cut. https://www.cdc.gov/infant-feeding-emergencies-toolkit/php/special-considerations.html

@Cari the CDC and La Leche League state that if there are still ice crystals present, milk can be refrozen. It just cannot be refrozen if completely thawed

Breastmilk is older than the CDC. 24 hour rule after its thawed and any left over use for bath.
