URGENT HELP tongue tie release done

My baby has had her tie released this afternoon at around 4pm and she is still unable to latch , she was able to latch just after the procedure and since she struggles so much . I am so stressed out she’s hungry and I don’t know what to do they say bottle feeding can cause reattachment. I was so hopeful she would be able to take the breast but she struggles more now than before 😭😭😭😭😭😭

It can take a while for them to get used to the new movement, they need to learn how to move their tongues and open wider. It took my girl about a week before her latch became painless, and I remember I lost my head afterwards as I thought it would be instantly better. I carried on bottle feeding and testing her latch every now and again until it didn’t hurt anymore and that’s when I ditched the bottles. I haven’t heard that about bottle feeding causing reattachment before, that wasn’t the case in my experience so hopefully that will reassure you x

@Sally ok thank you so much Sally . I am here in tears because I feel like a failure she’s 6 weeks and she seems to be in so much pain too when I try to latch her on. I will give her a bottle then and try and latch her on when she’s had a bit of milk

I’m so sorry you’re having a hard time. I went through this and it’s upsetting to me how I feel like they don’t set the expectations accurately around being able to latch after this procedure. It took my son a few weeks and we had him see a cranial sacral therapist too post them releasing the tongue and he had a lip tie too. which I think also helped — once he got over the healing His latch was awesome. I don’t regret doing it, but I really wish they would’ve been more transparent because they make it seem like your babies just latch right away and breast-feed perfectly but they’re really is a recovery time. I’m pretty sure I just pumped and kept trying to feed him from the breast during that recovery time but yeah latching was tricky for a few weeks but after that it was just absolutely amazing and we’ve been breast-feeding ever since. And he’s coming up on 2 and a half years old!

Yes they literally sell you a dream 😭 It completely didn’t work out at all for my first and I am scared it fails again for my second but the release was needed. I gave her bottle now she’s settled but I am so scared that she doesn’t manage to take the breast at all and it reattaches as that happened with my first. Thank you for your message it gives me some hope. When she wasn’t going on the breast was you giving a bottle ?
