Monster Mothers

I'm 27 weeks pregnant and have started to think about birthing plans and the first few weeks post birth. Both my mother and MIL have opinions on what they think I should do and how I should manage things and don't seem to care what I think. Want to tell them both to just f*** off but don't have the energy for the fallout and drama.

You could say, "thank you for the advice, I'll have a think about it"... then a couple weeks later/after the birth/if it ever comes up again say something like, "I heard what you had to share, and after doing my own research/soul searching decided to do x, y, z instead"??

I have no clue what they are like as people, so you'd need to change it to suit you and them. But honestly, if lying/pretending for now is an option that will save you from the fallout and drama, you could always do that? Unless it'll cause even more fallout and drama later, in which case rip

I am really sorry they aren't supporting you and your choices though. It's honestly so hard to be in that position!

My plan don’t die, have a healthy baby, that’s it, everything else I will listen to the advice of experts and weigh up options, that’s what I am telling people who ask

Unless they are going to be there at the birth I wouldn't even tell them. Only you, midwives and your birthing partner needs to know.

I am sorry you are going through this. I would listen and take notes if that helps them feel hard and avoid conflict. Then do what your gut tells you. Almost every time I didn't listen to my gut I regretted it. Almost every time I listened I was SOOO glad.

Don’t stress yourself about getting into an argument/being nasty… if you’ve got a good relationship outside of these times they will understand…. With my own mum & I love her to pieces btw she started coming around everyday unannounced & stayed for ages trying to help but in reality annoying me & I ended up telling her to leave & banning her for a few days saying I just need space…I hinted a lot beforehand & tried speaking to her nicely but she just seemed to think the rule didn’t apply to her … after the few days I spoke to her she asked if I felt better gave me a bit more space & arranged to come round the following week. She was just happy I was ok & her grandson.

Unfortunately everyone wants to give a new mother advice & everyone thinks they are helping but in reality you just want a bit of space to figure things out. Everyone is excited so it does come from a good place but saying ‘that’s a discussion for just me & my hubby’ or me & hubby will decide is fine good luck x
