Nursery
I feel like I've made a huge mistake putting my little one into nursery.
I know everyone always talks about how normal it is that they get ill but honestly I didnt think it would be this bad.
In her first week she picked up viruses instantly. She's only been going 2 days a week since April 3rd and she's already had 2 colds, hand foot & mouth, a sickness bug, diarrhea and now we're onto a cough/sore throat. We're having to go through her not sleeping & refusing food. She'll no longer self settle and literally screams at the top of her lungs day and night to be held to sleep.
To top it off, we're doing it all while picking up the illnesses from her too.
I'm just so full of regret, feeling defeated and dont know what I can do about it.

We went through exactly the same with our older one and we are bracing ourselves for when the baby starts in a few weeks, I'm hoping it won't be as bad this time around cause his older brother is there and must be bringing things back with him, so hoping he's got a bit more immunity š
I do think itās normal for them to pick up illnesses, and there to be an initial increase when they first start, but that sounds like more than normal! Iām not a professional by any means, but I have been through it with 4 children and have never had it that bad! Maybe because with each one theyāre exposed to more and early on etc. but a new illness every week does seem a bit much. Maybe speak to the nursery, avoid anything accusatory but just ask if lots of children have been unwell, if thereās been some kind of peak? Bringing it up might refresh a bit of training and staff be more vigilant, or it might actually be that suddenly thereās loads going about and theyāre very aware of it and already doing their absolute best to avoid the spread, in which case itās just bad luck and is likely to improve? X
I felt the complete same! My little girl also started In April, she had a cold, hand foot and mouth, some sort of virus and then got an infection in her chest/ throat / eyes and ears all at the same time. Itās been now 4 weeks and touch wood sheās been ok.
One doctor said to be itās good sheās building her immunity now else when she starts school she will be getting it all then and itās harder.
Stick it out, youāre doing a great job! You will turn a corner soon x
Itās worth it in the end my son was ill for a year itās AWFUL! but heās 3.5 years old now and Is never ill other than chickenpox I canāt remember the last time he was ill it does build their immunity up before they go to school. Otherwise youāll just have the same issue when they start school xx
Same, there is something new every week and I am getting a bit fed up of being constantly ill myself. I pray it will pass soon as it's mentally and physically exhausting š
We went through the same. We started 1st April 2 days a week. This week was much better though, we havenāt had any illness (touch wood), there have been no tears at drop off, sheās gone back to self settling of night. Just hang in there, it will get betterā¤ļø
My 1 year old (as of yesterday) has been in nursery now for 2 weeks and has had two lots of illnesses we thought heād have exposure from his 2.5 year old sister bringing everything home! Honestly it does settle, heās actually got worse from soft play.
Itās all a change my son is a fomo baby and will not drink milk at nursery. But he eats more there than at home because of his peers, maybe speak to the nursery and ask them to follow youāre routine a bit more, thankfully as we know their routine weāve been preparing!
Unfortunately nurseries are breeding grounds for illnesses, but exposure to it is also important as it helps build up their immune system xx
