@Kara for my 2 year old I did ask because that’s what I thought but he did say as long as it’s not a force full keeping awake and it’s just he’s not falling asleep even when layed down then it’s fine (my 2 year old only likes to nap in school) never home that’s why I move his bed time up to 7 rather then 8/830 but I will never force them to stay up once I see there nodding out or honestly can’t stay wake because tiredness I just let them sleep
I would implement a “quiet time”. Mine are 15 months and 30 months. My older is hit or miss on actually napping but I put them both down around 11:30/12. They wake up at 7a and go down between 7p and 8p every night. It usually last an hour if he doesn’t fall asleep but can go up to 3 hours if he does and I’ll go in and wake them up. The older one usually wakes up after about 2 hours when he actually naps and the little one I wake up at the 3 hour mark. I’ve also started going on walks to the park (it’s about a mile from our house) and let them run off energy on the playground which helps them nap better too.
I would ask your pediatrician if they feel better it is developmentally appropriate for your kids. To my knowledge they need the nap for brain development still even at two years old.
