Partners mum

Hi really random , has anyone had a situation where your partner is the last sibling adult in the house and has it ever caused problems? Because he argues with her constantly to the point it started to sound like she wants ownership over everything he does . He can’t do anything without her getting pissed off . Or him being questioned . My partner is a f brilliant man & no question on his character . However he really struggles to take a stand for himself when it comes to his mum & I feel like I might have to shout the walls for him in a minute the way it’s going . For context she’s a single mum , has been all his life etc . Use this to judge my parenting & how her son steps in to be a step parent saying it’s not his place etc . He’s a f brilliant stepdad & he’s there when my daughter’s dad can’t be . But I don’t think she sees her son the way I do at all & it enrages me . How do I navigate this? Help?

My partner lives at his grandma house. She oversteps when it comes to both our kids. Always questioning him. Because I do majority of everything in the house and pay for just bout everything. I took a huge step back by stop cooking for a week. Then, even went as far as leaving with the youngest for 24 hours which shook up the house. My 9 year old cried for me. But I couldn’t take her with me cause she had school. My hubby felt bad because we were arguing at the time. His grandma since I’ve returned has been extra nice to me. She’s backed off when I say something goes it goes. We are trying to save to move out. I told my hubby I cannot live here forever! I can’t handle her over stepping all the time. It’s messing with my oldest mentally. It’s definitely caused major issues! Kill em with kindness! Try to stay calm. Also it’s up to the men to stand there ground. Unfortunately these relations between the two are toxic. It’s a control thing at the end of the day!

@Gianna it’s so bad . He’s said the most negative things about himself in the last few months . He lost his job & she was the first to go ‘ see son can’t do anything right ‘ . He lost his job & I sat there helping job search the whole time . I wish she knew , nah that man gets a hell of a lot right! He’s an excellent partner who’s helped me navigate so much trauma & so much pain & he heals me daily . Even my daughter feels it & she’s only 3 but she see even knows he’ll show up no matter what . It makes me so mad that I feel like yelling at the top of my lungs. She even did it in the car infront of me & I thought don’t even try me . I’m sat on pains meds , struggling but pushing through everything & that man even got me out the bed on the worst day with it .

Can he not move in with you to get away from his mum?

@Rachel we’ve considered this . Problem is I’m overcrowded in my household & trying to save to move out . But if he definitely needed somewhere to stay then he’s more than welcome . I have suggested maybe he looks into saving to move out on his own as well

It’s a control thing unfortunately. Hang in there!! It will only get better once he gets out and distances himself. Boundaries! He has to be the one to create it though.

Maybe you could both save for a place together then?

@Rachel definitely trying to look into it . He’s having to pay off some debt first & id rather he gets that sorted in the meantime

@Gianna he definitely tries . He told her I do not want you speaking on my partners parenting or poking her nose in on any choices I make . She won’t even stick to that half the time . He’s told her you keep doing this & my partner won’t sit & tolerate this much longer she’s going to speak up & you won’t like the response she’s got .

It still needs to be a constant of him standing up. Trust… I go through this with my hubby and his grandma. It’s a constant battle unfortunately.

@Gianna I know , he tries really hard to. She was extremely harsh about me going to therapy & he even lost his shit over that . He’s constantly taking a stand , I just feel bad
