I agree, I never forced my boy to use cutlery because I know for sure he will learn it. He’s been showing more interest in using it recently and has become better at it. He’s used to just hit the food and it would fly off into space so I tried to feed him myself more
You could try loading the spoon or fork and laying it front of them for them to pick up. I found these handy little dipper style spoons great as they ‘catch’ a lot of the food in the holes unlike a spoon which can easily drop off. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vicloon-Silicone-Weaning-Feeding-Utensil/dp/B0BBGX33V6/ref=asc_df_B0BBGX33V6?mcid=619c3bb44c7f3aabb9f76c16fb12e574&hvocijid=8947718162071031111-B0BBGX33V6-&hvexpln=74&tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=696285193871&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8947718162071031111&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045939&hvtargid=pla-2281435177338&psc=1&gad_source=1
Leave him he will pick it up my daughter is 14 months old and has only just grasped how to use a fork & spoon properly she sometimes turns the spoon before she gets it to her mouth always eat my dinner with her as well she watches me but everytime I give her a meal that requires a fork or spoon I always give her the cutlery even if she doesn’t use it sometimes she still uses her hands so I wouldn’t rush him to do it just patience and keep giving him his cutlery at meal times
