Thanks
I think it really depends. My oldest is 4.5 and we started if I remember right 5 months, but my youngest is 4 months now, and showing a huge interest. I was told as long as they could not tongue thrust when a tongue is in their mouth (like trying to get it out of their mouth), they could sit alone or with minimal assist. And have great head and neck control, and are showing an interest in food, they could start, but I'd definitely talk with pediatrician before making this decision 🙂 Best of luck! ❤️
6 months & no earlier.
My peds told me to start introducing at 4 months. So thats what I did and he did good with it, just baby food though not actual food food lol.
I started mine with a single grain baby cereal. I liked oat better than rice. One at 4.5 months and one at 5.5. My GP is very old school and wanted to do things one at a time. I did that with my son before I really started to understand BLW. After 6 months with him was mostly mushy stuff in bowls with the occasional full on BLW meal. My daughter had issues breastfeeding after we introduced cereals. Ended up failure to thrive. Turned out it was reflux that really only showed up once things other than milk were added to her diet. (My son was diagnosed and medicated reflux at 6 weeks old) We mostly did BLW with her. She seems to have a healthier relationship with food than my son. But he seems to be getting better. Basically, if you want to start, provided they're showing signs like Faith mentioned above, then you're good to go. When we did cereals to start we made them very thin and made with pumped breast milk, or formula to start, and only a half tsp at a time, increasing every day or 2, then thickening.
You can start stage 1 baby food. That’s what i did at 4mo slowly introducing!
I just realized rereading my comment.. 😅 - if they don't stick the spoon out of their mouth with their tongue, with nothing on it. They're good - I'm sorry if that was confusing. 😅
I started mine at 6 months. I did both baby food and BLW. Mostly the latter because she did not care much about the baby food lol. I've heard some people start as early as 4 months but I would consult with your pediatrician first.
