Currently EBF but I am wanting to start building a store of milk so that we can give one bottle a day and I can eventually leave little man with other people when needed. Before I start using my electric pump I wanted to try just collecting with either the Haakaa or Elvie Curve on the opposite boob whenever he feeds. Which do people prefer?

Haakaa worked great for me. I used Elvie products but they were overhyped and overpriced.
The haaka is cheap and simple and tbh I got better suction.

this is what I was wondering! If I don’t need to spend more then ideally don’t want to! Did you find the Haakaa stayed in place while you fed? Only thing that makes me lean towards the Elvie is not having to juggle baby and the haakaa at the same time!

It can get tricky to maneuver feeding baby and keeping the haakaa in place.. at least I had a tricky time. Haakaa also makes a product called the lady bug, which is more of a ‘wearable in the bra’ design. Not sure if anything works as good as the OG haakaa though. Also Elvie has the catch if you just want to collect passive milk letdown I found those super helpful!

haaka was going nowhere! Once I worked it out a few goes, getting my position it was stuck no matter what 😂 you can get the haaka ladybug that is hand free and slots into your bra too!

this is good to hear! I don’t think the ladybug has any suction does it so only collects any leakage? Not sure how much I’d be able to store from that alone.

this is what I’m worried about with the Haakaa! Not sure the lady bug has any suction so think it’s only helpful for leakage? Did you find Elvie has as strong suction as the haakaa?

Lady bug can have suction or no suction there’s a little plug on the top you can adjust. The Elvie catch doesn’t have any suction just for catching drops

it has light suction, not as strong as the og haaka but enough to encourage collection. I found that one really useful when I wasn’t feeding.

I don't know what the Elvie Curve is (I don't think we have it where I am)
But Haakaa's aren't recommended by IBCLC's due to them causing damage if not used correctly.
A manual pump like the Medella hand pump would be much better and get better results.

I hadn’t heard that. What kind of damage, do you know? I do have a manual hand pump and an electric one but I’m looking for something that can be used during feeds (on the opposite boob) so that my entire life isn’t taken up by feeding and then pumping as I struggled a lot with the time consuming nature of pumping when I had to do it exclusively for my now 4 year old who wouldn’t breastfeed.

I just got the Lansinoh hand pump and pump straight into the bag. I didn’t get on with the Haakka this time, and I’ve lost my Elvie curve from last time 🫠

I loved the hakka ladybug one it’s much better at staying put

did you find that the ladybug was a strong enough suction to build a store of milk without any other pumping?

it did but the Hakka is better however it just kept falling off and dropping it unless holding it so I felt the lady bug was better it worked like 80% and gets full faster but it sits in the bra so much more convenient
