Potty training 🚽

Has anyone started potty training? I’m thinking about starting soon and making it my goal to see if I can possibly get my little one potty trained by the time she’s 2. 🫣

I'm a teacher and about to be on summer break so this is going to become my summer activity! Our daughter is starting to wake up dry from naps and can (kind of) identify when she's pooped. So we'll see!

@Danie I have no idea what to expect, I’m going to have to educate myself before I start and see what works best for me and her. I hope you achieve your summer activity :)

Yeah a friend of mine sent me the books she used "Potty Training in 3 Days" and "Oh Crap! Potty Training" she has two and they are what she has success with!

@Danie thank you. I’m going to look into these.

I have same goal but honestly I have no clue what signs to look for.

Mom of 5. Kids will potty train when they are ready. Some kids are ready pretty early, some are not. Unfortunately, we do not have as much control as we’d like in this area. My first potty trained right after 3. My second wanted to before she was physically capable and trained right at 2.5. My third, was 2 years 9 months. My 4 year old is not yet trained and my 18 month old has already had success telling us and using the potty. You can introduce the concept, but if you want to do it in a no pressure way, it’s up to them in the end.

@Breezy Same. I’m going to look into some things and speak to her pediatrician at her next visit.

@Kelsey thank you for this. It’ll be more like an introduction for me and her because I don’t think she is ready but I am kind of curious of how things will go. No big deal if she isn’t fully trained by 2, she does things when she’s ready and I’m slowly getting the hang of that 😅

We just potty trained our 3yr old (after our 5th attempt over the past year) so our Nov baby is super interested but I know she’s not ready. We let her sit on all the little potty’s we have - and we have a bunch from the 3 yr old - and randomly we will let her go without a diaper but she always ends up peeing on the floor. I have many funny photos of her fully clothed sitting on a potty. Spend some time learning about it. It doesn’t hurt to expose her to little potty’s by having them in the bathroom.

Mine sometimes wants to sit on it after his brother but I'm in no way trying to potty train yet, just letting him explore it. This summer he can run around naked and then next summer we will actually try potty training when he can communicate better

Look up Andrea Olson and her Elimination communication/potty training for older babies she has all the cues to look for and great system for understanding you little one! I have two kids both have been potty trained by 1/1.5 with no potty issues just genuine this is what we do let’s go attitude.

Loving the responses! Thanks y’all, I think I’ll just introduce it to her and see where it goes.

My 18m old son is nearly day time potty trained. Still have some accidents but we leave for long car rides in just underwear and same with naps. It’s mostly on me though to put him on the potty or he would only tell me 50% of the time that he needs to go

I have 2, a nearly 3 year old and a 20 month old. We tried potty training my oldest at 18 months, 24 months, and 30 months. The first two times she was telling us she had to pee, but the act of sitting on the toilet scared her. When we tried again at 30 months it was literally two days of trying and the easiest transition ever. My suggestion is, if you try and it's 3 days of just accident after accident, wait and try again later. It'll be easy when they're actually ready.

I started a month ago. I’m about to give birth to his little sister though so we haven’t made tons of progress, but he’s been showing signs of being ready and I’d say he’s doing really well.
