Potty training being a disaster

On day 3 and both myself and my child are at breaking point .. plenty of tears from us both I feel so disappointed 😞 Day 1 - 7 accidents and 1 pee on the potty Day 2 - 11 accidents and 1 per and poo on the potty Day 3 - so far 5 accidents and 1 pee All the pees have been after they wake up and sitting on the potty not actually made it to the potty any other time yet. Holding their pees and getting extremely upset / meltdowns happening

And the ones that were “on potty” I literally shoved her on the potty and held her down. I got to understand her pre-wee/pre-poo cues (wriggling around, moving quickly, stopping playing, running off and hiding) then I put her on the potty and waited. Sometimes there were tears and that’s okay x

@Rachel do you have a day 2 / 3 one you could send me? We were 22% day one then 15% day 2. The only successes so far are when she’s just woke up. Shes holding her pee for hours, will sit on the potty no problem but just won’t pee on it. I’ve been grabbing her soon as I see her cues but she then just holds it soon as she reaches the potty 😓

Have you tried sitting little one on the potty every 15 minutes for a couple minutes at a time

@Jade yes I have but isn’t working 😓

It takes time, it took a few weeks for my daughter to fully understand. Make sure you give little one lots of praises when he/she uses the potty (I used a sticker chart), I started potty training my daughter in October and it wasn’t until January where she was accident free. Try not to get frustrated with little one and try to remember that it’s a brand new skill that little one is learning and can take time to master x

I stopped recording the accidents on day 2 as I was missing her cues. Justchillbabysleep does a potty training course you can buy online, we followed that. Blowing bubbles when on the potty helps them go, giving them a book they read just on the toilet etc. lots of praise when using potty successfully. Don’t say things like “oh, it’s okay” if they have an accident as it’s not okay (sounds harsh but it works). I’d say “oh no, wee doesn’t belong in knickers, wee goes in the potty” and show her the potty etc x

What’s making them upset? Is the potty in the same room that they’re playing in? When my daughter had accidents I just said “poo/pee goes in the potty” and cleaned it up. There will be lots of days of accidents when potty training. Even now, months later, my daughter has accidents if she’s too distracted by what she’s doing. I recommend the Big Little Feelings potty training course x

@Claire the potty just follows us between the garden, living room, kitchen depending on what we’re doing. She’s held her pee all night , totally dry nappy for the first time ever in the morning and been on and off the potty this morning for last hour but just won’t go 😓
