Help me!

I am potty training my almost 3 year old. He is doing AMAZING. We went from 8 accidents on day one to zero accidents on day three. (Aside from 2 poop accidents a day) I feel myself just waiting ALL DAY LONG for him to show signs to have to go to the potty. He isn't telling me yet he has to go. And I can see I'm just on edge and angry all day. I hate it. I need words of encouragement...or advice PLEASE. Also, what can I do to help him not go poop in his pants every single day? I understand he's learning...and so am I. He is my only child. It doesn't help that last night, my husband raised his voice after a poop accident. I told him after the fact he is only making things worse. Then...this morning my son's diaper was wet. *sigh* Since potty training he has been waking up dry, aside from this morning. Please give me all your advice. 🙏 Thank you

Also, today is day 4.

I'm letting my 3 year old run around at home without pants on until he can get the hang of pulling them down in time. We've not had any accidents and will try again starting in a week with the pants. I realize it's not for everyone, but it's what works for us, and no one is stressed out.

Take off his pants.

I wouldn’t have them in underwear yet. They feel too much like nappies. My first was a dream to potty train & got the whole I need to pee, he told me and by day 3 we could go out. Im currently also on day 4 with my second. He is a terror. I’m only getting one pee a day in the potty the rest have been on the floor, so please take this as encouragement that you are doing great. They are learning and we need to try and teach them but it’s difficult on both us and them. Good luck.

Firstly, I’ll say at day 4 you’re both doing amazing!!!! It won’t last forever!! Give grace to yourself and him- he’ll get it. Potty chart on the wall, right next to potty. We did 1 sticker per successful potty trip. When all the sticker spots were full- we’d take him to the store to pick out his special toy! Encouragement! Additionally, we had a jar of (dye free) m&ms on the counter. Pee in the potty= 1 m&m. Poop in the potty= 2 m&ms. Pooping on potty takes longer to get because some kiddos are just scared. It’s really just about getting him excited and proud of himself for going! Hype it up! I also made sure my son was drinking a lot water for more opportunities.

Lots of good advice here! I'll add : night time training and daytime training or two totally different animals. If you want him to not pee in a diaper, you need to get rid of the diapers. His whole life he's known that he can alleviate himself in his diaper. Pull ups are confusing for kids. I personally don't night time train until around 4 because sleep is just too precious in our house. I start day time training at 2. On day 4 if he's getting the concept, then you're doing great! Poo will come with time. Should be today or tomorrow that he'll start getting it. There's just less opportunities to identify that feeling and process that he needs to get to the toilet.

It took me a year, off and on, to fully potty train my son. Take him every 30-45 minutes. There will be fighting. As for the poop, you have to recognize your son's signs that he's going and then run him to the bathroom. Stick with it, not every kid is the same. Good luck!

@Ellie We did the no pants things, and all he would do is pee on the floor and move on with his day. It was like it was convenient for him because he didn't get wet. The pants I have on him are super lose, pajamas pants, with no underwear. Do you think that might be his problem?

Please dont shout at him while its frustating hes been used to going in the toilet in his nappy its a big thing for him he needs lost of praise cant you set alarms for every so often and sit him on the toilet and see if he goes get sticker charts and be over dramatic with praise when he does go also my son is 4 this weekend but still wears nappys to bed as ive heard that side does take longer to do

My son took 2 months to do a poo in the toilet. Every day pretty much was in his pants. Then one day he just ran to the toilet and did a poo and has done ever since. A few people told me that one day he would just get it and it was true. It was super frustrating but I tried to keep the pressure off. He loved the reward chart and a dinosaur reward jar so that could be an idea. He got one sticker for wee and two for a poo.

Also we started doing a race to the toilet when he had a regression like “I’m going to get their first to do a wee” and then he would always want to go first. Still works even now.

I remind him hourly I don’t wait until he tells me coz sometimes he gets distracted playing and forgets. Even now he’s been trained for 3yrs I still remind him
