Swaddles vs Sleep Sack

Any other April babies already out of the swaddle stage? My son would sleep great all swaddled up like a baby burrito but the last couple of weeks he’s been really uncomfortable and making all kinds of noises grunting noises. At first I pinned it to the reflux he’s been suffering but I’m wandering if it’s also the swaddling and maybe an arms out sleep sack would be better. Anyone else dealt with this or currently dealing with similar?

After my first hated being swaddled I just didn’t even try with my second born who is now 4 weeks old. She is doing perfect without being swaddled. Last feed is at 10 pm we do bedtime routine and she wakes at 3-4am for a feed and then again at 6 am. Every baby is different but I’ll probably never swaddle any of my babies especially since you have to transition them out later anyway. Also to add some babies are just sooooo loud and grunty my daughter is extremely loud lol.

I experienced this with my first baby including the reflux and found the halo transition swaddle with arms out worked better. However, she was not a great sleeper until 3.5 months so it was not a magic fix, but definitely helped us all get the short stretches of sleep that we did get until her reflux was better!

@Christie What do you use instead of a swaddle? My son was a pretty quiet sleeper, aside from the hunger cries, but now he makes all kinds of noises but as if he’s uncomfortable, trying to clear his throat, squeezing out a poop… yes, all three sounds at the same time 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

My daughter slept good with the swaddle when we were still in the hospital ( till she was almost days old) we tried swaddling her when we were home we tried easy swaddles, loose swaddles, half way swaddles, snug swaddles, thin and thick swaddles. she HATED it! But then we decided to try sleep sacks. She slept so much better. But now we just dress her in warm clothes and she’s fine.

My little guy hates being swaddled and is very good at getting his arms out, but he sleeps so much better when he is. He wakes himself up when his arms are free to move around. I think once he gets the hang of staying asleep he'll like the sacks, but for now he'll have to be in the straight jackets still 😅

Becuz when she was swaddled, she would wake up probably every hour or hour n a half

Then she started sleeping almost to the 3 hour mark gradually

@Amrita ahhh that sounds exactly like my daughter…she actually hasn’t pooped in like 5 days 🥲🥲🥲 but I’m not worried about it yet since breastfed babies can go a while without a poop. But she has been gassy so even more noisy. I’ve been using the Carter’s purely soft sleep sack since it’s been really hot in my house and we don’t have A/C it’s lightweight enough.

We haven’t even tried sleep sacks yet , my baby loves swaddles still! Swaddling her is really the only way I can get her to sleep in her bassinet alone but then again it’s been cold the past week or so here so swaddling her makes it seem like she’s cuddling me for warmth but it’s definitely has to be a tight swaddle if not she doesn’t love it

April 16th mom here and we haven’t swaddled her for over a week now and from the looks of it I guess no more swaddles for her since she’s doing good. We also stopped because she just seemed super uncomfortable. She sleeps normal naps for 2-3 hours during night time.

My nugget loves his swaddle, especially after bath time

We only swaddled for the first week he hated his hands being restricted

@Christie yeah this is about how we do it our last feed is 11-11:30 he wakes up about 4am then 7 am for feeds. We only swaddled him for the first week he didn’t seem to like it so we stopped he’s just dressed warm enough for whatever the temp is like. He’s now 7 weeks we have a good routine

We only did a full swaddle for a week or so. Our babies love the SwaddleUp, which is more like a sleep sack that covers their arms but lets them stay up and more mobile than a swaddle. We also use the Halos, but leave his arms free or at least his hands.

I’ve transitioned to both arms out using the Ollie swaddle and he seems to like it. Only downfall is the Velcro startles him during night time diaper changes when he’s sleepy.

My daughter dose not like the swaddle she will let us swaddle her but she ALWAYSSS get out of it she likes her hands up by her face and her legs out but usually the blanket just lays on top of her

I swaddled my first and transitioning her out of it was stressful, so for my second I didn’t even start! He sleeps great in just a onesie and sleep sack with his arms out.

My baby absolutely hates the swaddle, but actually sleeps better with it on. I've tried leaving it off at night, but she acts like she has restless leg syndrome or something and stays awake kicking all over the place. She wakes herself up constantly (and me!) if not swaddled right now.

Mine tolerates a swaddle as long as her arms are out. But we switched to the sleep sack pretty quickly
