To promote sitting longer would you be able to give him a video/toy something he’s highly interested in?
My son isn't but what I did to get him to sit on longer was get him a 'wheres Spiderman' book. It's basically a where's Wally book but with Spiderman and I would get it out every time he sat on the potty and I'd sit next to him with the book. He'd focus so much on the book and forget about the potty and end up going 😁
My pre verbal daughter we taught by learning noises, facial expressions and doing guestures (there is a makaton sign you can use as we just patted our or her bottom). My asd son we used the iPad and had him go every hour and worked out the pattern that he went.
@Karen now this may work for us.. he knows some sign language and that’s how he can communicate with us for some wants and needs so I’m definitely going to look up this now, thank you!
We use makaton signs for toilet, wee, poo etc and kept doing the signs until our boy picked up on them so like 'your sat on the toilet' 'wow you're doing a wee wee' whilst signing the last word if that makes sense. Once he got used to the signs he now copies when on the toilet and has just started to sign to tell us he needs to go 😁

Someone told me to try bringing bubbles to potty time
I’ve tried bubbles, books, iPad or a film on with his porta potty, the kid just don’t want to sit still for longer than a few seconds 🫠🤣 gets up then does his business all over the floor, slowly giving up but trying to stay positive
Hi I hope this helps i found this https://www.autismspeaks.org/tool-kit/atnair-p-toilet-training-guide :)
