Yesterday I did a post asking if Elia (pronounced Ellie-ya) was too feminine and lots said yes! So what about ilya or ilyas? It's the Greek version of Elijah and my only preferred name atm!

I think Ilya does sound feminine but Ilyas doesn’t but could be a biased opinion since I know Ilyas is Elias in a few different languages

I’ve only ever met boys with the name ilya so I’d say it isn’t too feminine x

Elias sounds like a boys name

I was confused my which is yes and which is no as there were two questions 😂
ilyas probably sounds the most masculine to me.

Ilyas for sure is a masculine name

Accidentally voted yes but I like both Ilya & Elia for a boy. Ilyas is also cool.

Ilya I think sounds more feminine but Ilyas definitely masculine x

Elia looks more masculine to me! I've only ever known it as a boy's name as I once taught an Elia xx

I like Elia nickname El nice and masculine to me

I know a couple of male ‘Ilyas’. “Il y a’ is French for ‘there is/there are’.

I’m from Eastern Europe and Ilya is a very masculine name common around that region. I guess it differs from a society, as, for example, Andrea in Italy is a masculine name, but everywhere else is a feminine.

What about Elio? 🥰

I do like it but don't feel like it's the right fit! X

thanks I thought so too!

its the same for where I'm from too and in the Middle East!

I’ve only seen this as a boy name, pronounced “ill-ya” Russian.

I think in both cases you just need to add the S to the end. Ilyas or Elias are very clearly boy names. That said, I think both Ilya and Elia are nice for a boy! It’s just if you care about perception, the s will help.

I'm confused about how to pronounce Ilya because, to me, both the ways you wrote are pronounced the same.
Is it Eel-ya? Or E-Lee-ya?
Ilyas is definitely masculine sounding, and I think Ilya could be too. It's cute and if you love it, use it 😊

@Vera, it depends on how you pronounce it, doesn't it?
An-dree-uh is feminine and a different name to Un-Dray-uh or An-Dray-uh.

so I pronounce it Ei (as in the beginning of it) Lee-ya, and before I was pronouncing it Ellie-ya and I think that's why people may think it's a bit girly. I also think adding the S is quite important in making it sound more masculine which I didn't know lol!

, I think Ei-Lee-Ya could go either way. I think it's cute for both genders ❤️

I know several men named Ilya with that pronunciation
