6 week old constipated

I believe my 6wo is constipated (hasn’t pooed in 4 days and his last poo was a green pasty poo). We took him to the doctors and they suggested laxative but we should we give it another 48 hours to see if he poos before that.
I’m on the edge about giving him laxative because I want him to poo but I don’t want it to cause any problems.
So has anyone’s newborn had laxative before and did it really help? I’m so lost and I don’t know what to do.

I'm sorry you're going through that. My baby also has trouble pooping regularly. Mine is only on formula, and sometimes switching to a gentle formula that promotes softer stools can help. If you're breastfeeding, it might be helpful to look at your diet—low fiber intake can sometimes contribute to your baby's constipation. I’ve been giving my baby probiotic drops, which seem to help with her digestion. Also, tummy massages, bicycle movements, and if anything there is Frida windy it can help to poop if baby is also gassy

I forgot to mention mine was combi feeding but mainly formula. I was giving him cow and gate but might have to switch to something else, though the past 2 days i’ve been breastfeeding but i’ve found that my milk supply has dropped drastically so i’m not even sure if he’s getting enough.
I will definitely try to get my fiber up and see about probiotic drops, which one have you been using?
I’ve tried tummy massages, bicycle legs, baths, even tried to frida windy but he cried so bad when i put it in and it wasn’t even all the way so i stopped and i’m too scared to try again

Gripe water worked wonders for my baby girl!!!

Avatar

We had to give my daughter laxatives from 6 weeks for a week best tho g we did l. She didn’t poo straight away but we had explosive poops every other day post laxative. We did the leg bicycling and tummy massage , sometime extra help is needed

Avatar

Not sure if you’ve tried it but sometimes the ready made formula in bottles can make them go!

We were prescribed laxative but I know it makes me uncomfortable so I wouldn’t give it to my LO. Instead I just did a few sips of cool boiled water recommended by the HV and that worked x

Have you tried belly massages, bicycle legs and even wiggling her bum in circles. I also use a gripe water(dummy dip) which helps my little ones tummy ease that little bit more if she’s got lots of farts.

Avatar

I’ve tried gripe water, colief and even infacol, but nothing😭

Yeah, I might have to get it because he’s not sleeping either, he’s straining so much he wakes himself up crying and he only sleeps for about 20 minutes before he’s up again and only once does he sleep for 4 hours and that’s the only time i can sleep with him. it’s just so difficult and i hate seeing him so distressed and in pain

Avatar

he was on that when he was born but we stopped because he kept throwing it up. but will try give that a go again to see

Avatar

i tried the warm water too and he absolutely hates it😭 but i might have to try it again. i feel as though ive tried everything but the laxative and i really really dont know what to do

Avatar

yes, i’ve tried all of that you’ve mentioned 😭 im literally just at a dead end and i don’t know what to do

Avatar

oh no I’m sorry, maybe try what the doctor said and fingers crossed it works for them :(((( x

We only did it for a few days but saw amazing results, she still not a movement a day type of girl! But we don’t have the grunting or screaming and I haven’t had to use it since she’s 16 weeks now

Avatar

i’ll give it a go, it’s our last option so we’ll see. how many weeks was she when started giving it to her?

Avatar

her six week check up was when we were prescribed it !

Avatar

ah you did say, my bad. but thank you! i’m definitely going to give it a try

My lg was like this (now almost 8 months old).
We were prescribed Movicol as she was constipated and uncomfortable as a result. We used it from 6-10 weeks old but then stopped as it made her stools really loose and her bum got really sore!
She was on sma little steps but we swapped to cow and gate at around 14 weeks old to see if it helped and within a week she was a different baby! Less constipated, less gassy and a lot happier.
We also started probiotics and that has helped a lot!

I’m late to the party, but the only thing that worked for us was a Baby Bjorn style bouncer. We got a dupe brand. I’d seen a lot of people complain that their baby always had blowouts when they were in it, so I bought one specifically for that purpose the evening after taking him to the doctor for constipation. 10 minutes after he got in it he pooped 😂

Avatar

Green and pasty is normal, especially for a combi fed baby.

4 days is also normal.

If he's straining a lot it could be infant dysxhezia rather than constipation

this is what I named my daughter 😍🥰😍🥰😍🥰

Leaky nappy help

What nappies are you using to stop leaks?? We use pampers ultra dry size 5, and for the past few nights he has lashed through and we’ve had to completely change him during the night. Last night he leashed through twice!! He sleeps on his front and stays leaks through at the top of his leg where the tabs connect. Didn’t know whether to size up, he has a bit of a belly on him but he’s smack in middle of weight guidance so shouldn’t need too

Am I wrong?

I’ve been wanting to add more garden beds to my garden. Husband says “hey do you want to go to Home Depot to get that wood for the garden beds.” Cool I’m excited I’ve been wanting to get this done for awhile.

We get there and we’re picking out wood and I make 2 comments about how I don’t like how 2 pieces of wood look that he picked out. And he says if you’re going to be this picky then u can do this yourself.

I literally made 2 comments and mind you I’m the one paying for the wood.

I felt dismissed and like my opinion didn’t matter and if I wanted to have an opinion then I need to do it myself. Like what?

It was rude and not okay. Am I wrong? Am I overreacting?

He thinks it was fine that he said that.

5.30am wakeups 😫😴

My 15 week old has started waking up about 5.30am and is really hard to settle back down - it’s like he thinks it’s time to wake up for the day. He used to go to bed at 9pm and was up at 8am but now he goes to bed between 7.30-8pm as he’s knackered by then but waking up at 5.30am😴. Any advice to get him to sleep a little longer in the morning?! Even an extra hour would be lovely 🤣
