From Bottle to straw cup/sippy cup. Advice?

Hello everyone 👋🏻

I’m struggling to get my almost 2 year old to drink from a straw or sippy cup. We have tried every sippy cup imaginable and straw cup especially ones for sensory issues (like the honey bear cup etc.)

She throws a full on tantrum and starts grabbing her face out of frustration and screaming when she sees the cup (edit to add she also acts like this when it comes to getting her teeth brushed)

I know it takes time and patience but I feel we made some progress she will only allow the straw in her mouth if I’m holding the honey bear cup but I noticed she won’t let it touch like her tounge or teeth. So I figured she is still struggling with Sensory issues.

Anybody have any advice or suggestions?? TIA

Can you get a referral for this to OT? My sister works with kids on these types of sensory reactions in the OT field. Even one session might be helpful with new things to try.

She’s is already in OT and they just referred to honey bear bottle . They just said it’s normal and to quit bottles all together but if she doesn’t have a nipple bottle then she won’t drink at all and it’s the same for open cups

hi! my son also would not drink from a straw cup until he was 2. we tried honey bear cup and various straw cups from target/amazon and were unsuccessful. we started giving him to go squeeze pouches and would squeeze it for him. it took a long time but eventually he learned! Does your daughter like pouches?
