Antenatal health visitor appointment?
Hello! I’ve had a voicemail from a health visitor today asking to call back to arrange a time to meet. I’m only 31w but have seen on the ParentClub website etc that it’s normal to see a HV antenatally around this time.
Anyway my question is - what happens at the appointment/what’s it for? I feel a bit inundated with appointments (don’t know if anyone else feels like that) and could honestly go without it if it’s just going to be about golden hour after birth, breastfeeding etc

My appointment was litterally just to ‘get to know’ each other. See how we were doing and explain what they are there for. Think she was in the house for about 10 mins.

When I had mine, she brought a handful of leaflets with info about different things, from activities to do with your baby during the first year to SIDS. You might not find it very helpful if you've been reading Ready Steady Baby, but it's more to start to get to know each other, as she will be the named person for your child for the next 5 years and you'll most likely end up getting in touch about any concern you have or got advice regarding transitions, milestones, etc. I know I was glad to have met mine when I was still pregnant, as I had a handful of different midwives coming to the house for 10 days PP and I was so happy to see someone I had actually met before and who I was comfortable with already.
It’s just to let you put a face to a name and discuss anything you want to discuss about post birth. For me it was mainly breastfeeding and how to support this x

yes!! They also can get you a breastfeeding support worker too when post partum who can visit so frequently too, I found them so useful xx
When mine phoned she offered the appointment but also said she understood I could still be working then getting ready for baby so didn't need to take it but to know she was there if I needed anything, I didn't take the appointment. Baby was born when she was on 2 weeks holiday so ended up with someone else who was great but retired so ended up with another one for the 18 month review and will end up with another one for the 27 month review because the one that was due to take over hadn't started by the review date.
I have ended up going to the gp about my concerns with recurrent croup and got a referral through them
