Infacol - is the orange flavouring acidic?

Has anyone that’s been using Infacol noticed an increase in reflux symptoms in their little one?

I’ve been giving it to my little one on recommendation by a midwife for a gassy tummy as he was struggling with wind and has been taking it now for around a week. However, I’ve notice a build up of reflux symptoms which has got progressively worse since then and was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this?

The only think I can think of is if the orange flavouring may be acidic hence making reflux worse?

Also, just wondering if anyone has used Dentinox and if that’s any good? Considering replacing Infacol with that.

Thanks 🙂

Infacol is a surfactant and as such I don't think it's either acidic or basic, it would be pH neutral. The way it works is it brings together small bubbles of gas and forms a big bubble out of them but the gas still has to go somewhere so you might be seeing more symptoms of reflux because of that.

Personally, I think it's best to avoid stuff like that unless there's a genuine problem such as baby not gaining weight - gas and reflux are to a large extent a normal thing in newborns because their guts and their oesophagal sphincter are still maturing x

Yes we had the exact same thing with it. Seemed to help his tummy with gas pain but definitely more reflux. I'm considering trying dentinox as he really just seems to struggle to bring up any burps after breast feeding x

Thank you for this. Perhaps I’ll see if he can go without and see how he gets on. Seeing the GP tomorrow to hopefully get some treatment for his reflux as neither my little one or myself are getting any sleep. I’m in a constant cycle of feeding which takes time winding 2/3 times during a feed then after. Now he won’t settle at all between feeds, constantly fidgeting and crying; clearly in a lot of discomfort. We’re both exhausted x

dealing with reflux is awful. I hope the Dentinox works for you x

@Emma Yes we had a night of that yesterday and its horrible seeing him in pain with it. Hard to know when to stop him feeding as well as he takes comfort breaks but then is drinking again but I'm conscious of gas building up x

I feel for you as I’m going through the same thing. It really is hard and even harder when you can’t get any sleep x

Saying this yes I now think she has silent reflux on top of the wind but wasn't sure if the wind was causing the reflux 😕

What reflux symptoms are you experiencing? Xx

so he’s constantly feeding (formula) then despite 2/3 breaks during his feed to wind him and then again for a good 20 mins after, he’s never settled. He’s fidgety, making noises and clearly in a lot of discomfort. He’s bringing up feed up to over an hour after he’s finished. There’s no respite. But this has worsened since he’s been having Infacol. We’ve been on a constant cycle of him feeding grumbling in between and then its time for a his next feed it starts all over again. Exhausting to say the least x
