My 10 month old wakes up between 5am and 5:30am every morning, sometimes I can get him back to sleep but it takes up to an hour everytime. By which point there’s not much point him going back to sleep. Do I just have an early riser? Or is there anything I can do to stop this? Anyone else experienced this? What did you do?

My little girl (10months on the 21st) is also an early riser, she will wake up between 5am and 5:45am.
She only has x2 1hr 20min naps in the day, blackout curtains etc.
She goes to bed at 7pm.
The only thing I was advised was to put her to bed later, but she is ready to go to bed at 7pm and has a nice routine around it.
They say at 10months old they need around 13.5hours of sleep per day, and 11-12hours of that is nighttime sleep and 2-3hours of daytime sleep so I guess my little girl is having enough.
Perhaps you could push his bedtime back if you want him to sleep in later, or make sure he’s not having to much daytime sleep :) x

Following because my 10 month old is exactly the same 😴

Sheesh is he breastfed? I've experienced this with my 2 year old when she was younger. Is it anything that wakes him up?

My son was an early riser - 5:30/6am was normal for him until around the age of 7/8 (with an 8pm bedtime). He’s 12 now, his bedtime is around 9:30pm and even now he rarely sleeps past 8am which is v early compared to his peers!

Gosh I could’ve written this!! Following as I’m lost as well

so my little boy has two naps usually, anything from 30 mins in the morning but can sleep up to an hour then an hour and a half after his lunch. But if we are out and about his tends to not have as long so has a 3rd nap about 2/3ish. He goes to bed at 7, I have tried putting him down later at 7:30, 8 and 8:30 he still wakes up once in the night and 5/5:30.
He does have 2.5 hours sleep during the day on average and I’d say only 10 hours on average at night. I have read to cap his morning nap at 20-30 mins so he has enough sleep pressure at his lunch time nap to sleep longer.

he was but had to stop at 2 months old. We thought it might have been lighter mornings so put a blackout blind up but made no difference. He also has white noise on all night.

I’ve kind of accepted that 5am is the time we start the day now but I don’t bring him downstairs or start our “daily routine” like milk or anything like that until 6/6:30 I keep trying to get him back off until 6/6:30 in the hope he will learn it’s not awake time. We still have wake ups in the night so just feel so tired, especially with a full days work aswell x

Changing to later bedtime is the only way , my LB used to do 6.30pm till 4.30am (10hrs) for months & I had to go back to work when he turned 1 & thought I can’t do this anymore, put to bed later by 15min every few days & build it up x

My daughter wakes between 5-530am doesn't matter what time bedtime is. She usually goes to bed between 6-630pm we can't manage any later and we usually have 2 hours over 2 naps. I think some children just wake early. My 5 year old is usually up between 530-6am if her sister hasn't woken her up.

I have tried later bed times, 7:30, 8 and 8:30 and he still wakes up at 5 or 5:30 with a night wake up too. And me and my partner lose our evening to relax which I really do believe is necessary to switch off. X

Unfortunately later bedtimes don’t always work and can just lead to overtiredness or more frequent nighttime wake ups. It’s thought that “sleep breeds sleep” and some toddlers/kids are just straight up early risers, whilst others will sleep until they’re woken up! Totally alien concept to me 😅. Hoping that the baby I’m carrying will like sleep a little more than her big brother…!

over tiredness is what we end up with with later bed times, which results in even later bed times because it takes long to put him down xx

exactly that - but it is so hard to accept having an early riser..I used to feel so hard done by that CBeebies didn’t start until well after we’d been up for an hour..as you can tell, this was a long time ago before streaming platforms were a thing 😅

How many naps is he on?

I know exactly what you mean. I tend to keep white noise not until 6/6:30 xx

2 usually but if we are out in the afternoon he won’t sleep longer than 40-60 mins so occasionally 3 otherwise it’s way too long from second nap to bedtime xx

I think you've just got an early riser.
My girl sleeps at 9:30 / 10 when I do and wakes approx 10 hours later.

My girl woke up at 4:40 this morning and 4:30 yesterday. Prior to that 5:30/6 🫠🫠🫠🫠.

My little girl used to sleep until 6:30/7 and the past couple of mornings has been up at 5 and today 4:45! Any tips greatly appreciated!

People always tell me oh maybe it’s the heat, or a regression, maybe he’s having a growth spurt or it’s his teeth. There are so many possibilities of things it could be 🤯

Same here. Could be a regression, teeth, growth spurt the fact it's lighter mornings (even if you have a blackout curtains), the heat there's so many possibilities. Or the body is waking them up at that time. 😴
