Any tips on dealing with hyper emotional, very expressive, very loud children who need a lot of regulation by a parent with auditory sensitivity?

In other words, loud noises and voices make me equally angry and sad lol and having a very emotional and LOUD child is 🥲 Ya know when your needs haven't been met for the day and something that would just annoy you a little bit any other time makes you lose your freaking mind?! I've been also having frequent headaches if there's too much noise over a period of time and it causes me to be really fatigued and exhausted.

I would say, invest in some good headphones! Play music when they’re too loud and it’s exhausting for you. Be there for them, but you can do what they need with headphones in! Maybe set up little stations in the home that help them regulate? Like a cool down corner with ice packs, coloring of emotions, a book of emotions if they can read. Things like that might help? Also, make sure you’re taking time for you. It’s good to set boundaries for them, “listen mommy loves you and always will, but mommy needs some time to herself to regulate and make herself feel better” it’s setting a wonderful example

these are such good tips wow. Thanks! I think we all need our own cool down corners lol. I love that idea so much

Yay I’m glad I could help!

There are earplugs that reduce the intensity of noise but still allow you to hear. I don't remember what they're called, though.

I've tried a couple of them. I use one for the gym sometimes if music is too much for me that day, but I hate that plugged feeling that buds give you. Like feels like something is in your ear and it shouldn't be. I know it sounds a little ridiculous lol. I think headphones would work. I use like big ones for the gym anyway and sometimes I forget they're on and it's blissful lol

Very good ideas already! One thing I’ve seen is being goofy when dealing with a tantrum. They say it’s a way to draw their attention out of the panic mode and then invite them to be goofy too. Waving arms around, marching, and dancing all ways to help regulate. It’s a recommended transition from tantrums to sit and talk and regulate.
Hope this helps!

Noise canceling headphones. I also put in ear buds & listen to brown noise or meditation songs. I've also taught my kids if they see me with either on they need to gently tap on me & wait for me to take them off for us to talk.

The book "Understanding Your Child's Sensory Signals" by Angie Voss (she's an occupational therapist) was a game changer for us. It doesn't read like a traditional book but instead the table of contents lists all of the sensory signals and then when you go to the individual page it gives you ideas on how to help.

Brief example...
Literally bounces off the walls (pushes off one, runs to the other side, repeat)
Sensory explanation - a child who likes to do this is most likely using it as a way to self-regulate and organize the brain.
Ideas to help
-Encourage other types of powerful movement-based play such as an indoor swing.
-Try a BOSU ball or hippity hop ball.
-Use a trampoline

definitely checking the book out. It sounds like I have friends who'd benefit from this as well

I’m this parent.

I’ve bought earplugs. That makes a massive difference.

Mine seem to quieten down when I sing. Now the neighbours must hate me because I’m not the best, but it’s probably better than listening to children scream and moan as the same time (I hope).

sometimes I put the tv on and hide for 5 minutes if it’s been a full on day to help myself recover from the noise

Omg Ive been experiencing this same thing with my child who is autistic. I try to keep busy and active. Drinking water. Going for nature walks helps alot as well. I hope things get better for you. 🙏🏽
