Do you think you'd enjoy motherhood the same way if some things were drastically different?

Assuming this isn't your position already, would you enjoy motherhood as a single mom or struggling financially? Do you think this would affect you wanting children?

And if this is your position, answer it in the reverse. Would you enjoy motherhood more if you had a partner or wasn't struggling financially?

I'm curious because I experience motherhood in a totally different way as a single mom vs being with her father

I definitely wouldn't enjoy motherhood as much if I weren't in a good position with a supportive partner. My spouse and I both grew up with single mothers who struggled and we wanted better for our own kids

I wousknt enjoy it the same simply due to split custody. Thats my biggest fear of becoming a single mum and not seeing my son every night to tuck him in or not having him every weekend when I’m off. Would break my heart.

I love that 🥹

Definitely wouldn't enjoy it as much. I feel so blessed with a supportive partner, it allows me to be a SAHM which I absolutely love. If I was a single mum, then I wouldn't be able to do that. I don't really have a "village" so I would have to work to support me and my child and would have to leave her in nursery. I'm in an extremely privileged position and so so grateful for that, soaking up every moment because you never know how and when your situation can change. Thankful always!

I think if I were a single mother things would be much harder. Its like a sigh of relief when my husband gets home from work because I'm not juggling it all alone anymore

my fear too. I need to be with my son. I’d be devastated

I have a partner but we have our financial struggles for sure. It's definitely challenging. I definitely would enjoy motherhood more if I didn't have that stress on my shoulders all the time

I’m in a lucky position with a supportive husband. We live semi traditionally and he takes care of all the bills etc and I don’t have to worry about it.

I would absolutely find motherhood less enjoyable if I had the work load of the nurturer and the provider. Thats such an intense work load for anyone and growing up with a single mum I just did not want to juggle all the load myself.
I also could not fathom sharing custody of my daughter and I take my hat off to all single parents!

I’ve actually experienced both but motherhood was significantly more difficult when hubby and I took a break. There’s just something about having your SO around that makes life a bit more easy going.
Haven’t gone down the lack of finances side of things though because even during our break hubby was 100% still providing for me and LO so can’t comment on that xx

My respect for single mothers is over the moon

I've been single with a child for a few years before meeting SO. Luckily I had my parents help so it made it easy for me to go to work. I worked 2, 3 jobs at a time. It sucked leaving child so often.
Now I have hubby which he's great, I wfh so no need for child care most of the time.
Child is currently away for the summer to be with her family on dad's side. I sometimes wish I never told them I was pregnant and just kept baby to myself lol

I think it would be near impossible if I wasn’t with my partner and had my parents to help. I’d never be around to see them grow and have experiences I never had with my mom.

There are parts of motherhood that I would enjoy more with increased finances and some would stay the same.

Ex. I’d pick nanny over daycare so I could be around my kids more while I’m working. Aside from the park it’s not many free things for children to do in my area so we could do more.

However money wouldn’t fix the hit on freedom motherhood has unless I hire help and be a deadbeat which I have no interest in.
I have taken some career hits from motherhood which tie to the freedom aspect

I've been looking after my 10 month old alone for 4 days (6 days to go). I could NEVER be a single mum. You get no breaks (I don't have family around) it's on you constantly....and yes...I've been doing it for only 4 days and I'm over it 😆

Being a Mom is hard already at times. Throw in outside challenges and man, that would be harder. I have a husband and stay home with my kids and have days where I'm like 😴 I cannot fathom if I struggled financially or with my children's father 😥

I am a solo mum, IVF with sperm donor, I feel so relieved when other mums tell me about their spousal struggles, not agreeing on parenting decisions or co parenting. Sure it is a financial strain but my boy is my world and I don’t have to share him at all. I have a calm, happy and healthy household and he hs plenty of male role models

Avatar

I think knowing beforehand that you'll be solo parenting definitely helps! I'm grateful all of my child's decisions are also my own, but the mental load would be nice to pass off sometimes lol

It would for a shower!!
