Has anyone found that switching to goats milk worked well for their baby instead of changing to aptimal pepti 1/nutramigen etc ?

Apparently goats milk has similar proteins as cows milk and therefore babies often react to goats milk the same as they do with cows milk if they have CMPA

I did, I found using goats milk worked for my twins, I did this rather than going for cows milk formula first due to my other 3 children before who had cmpa and we used sma Alfamino with them.

Yh most of the time if they have cmpa they will be just as allergic to goats milk so definitely not a recommended solution if they genuinely have cmpa x

My dietician told me to avoid using other animal milks. 1 - because they contain very similar proteins so most babies with true CMPA will react to them.
2- just like cows milk, animal milks are way too rich and fatty for children under 1 to digest and wouldn’t be recommended, regardless of CMPA or not.
If your little one is showing symptoms of CMPA, I’d go with the hydrolysed formula first to see how you get on and if still reacting; then amino acid based. It’s not worth it to risk their digestive system for convenience (and it’s cheaper as prescriptions are free!). Xx

It’s cheaper because it’s free and I hear that but you don’t want the child to build up an intolerance. Best to try it out and if it’s not helping then get the hydrolysed I’d say.

I see a specialist dr - paediatric consultant for my twins and he said the nannycare goats milk is good. GP’s tend to go off what the hospital says - so maybe get a hospital referral for allergies and intolerances maybe

my son sees a dietetic consultant (paeds don’t specifically deal with diets, that’s a dietician!) and he said to avoid animal milks until over 1, the same way you would if you had a non-allergy baby. You wouldn’t be giving them cows milk before 1 so the same rule applies. It’s not to do with potential allergy/intolerance build up, it’s because internally their organs are too immature to digest the fat content in the milk. Children can end up with chronic life long conditions from being given foods and fluids before their organs are matured & ready. I had to wean my son due to CMPA at 17 weeks and he’s now suffering the consequences & hospital have admitted it’s because of the weaning.
Also, if it’s true/genuine CMPA, then it’s an allergy, not intolerance, and children shouldn’t be exposed to an allergen unnecessarily. Xx

Yeah so when I say goats milk I mean the formula so it’s been fortified etc, I don’t mean the liquid form- that’s a no no.

I did mention nannycare goat milk which is a baby formula like aptamil, sma etc

Also I didn’t just check with paeds, I spoke to my daughters consultant who is an allergy dr and deals with babies with cmpa, eczema , gut health, intolerances etc because I’ve had to deal with food allergies and intolerances, alongside eczema with my previous babies, I’m now a mum of 5 - had to learn each time

I think she meant like goats milk formula like in UK there is kendamil goats milk formula which is very popular, same way all regular store brought formula contains Cowes milk which is how babies can have an Cowes milk protein allergy to begin with. I didn't read it as she was suggesting to give straight up fresh goats milk and I don't think poster meant that either. I definitely agree with you in the sense my babies doctors and dietician also said just stay away from any animal milk based formula as its most likely to have the same reaction but I'm pretty sure everyone was talking formula based animal milk now fresh like we would drink x

thats what the milk ladder is for later down the line its definitely more important to have a comfortable happy baby that is gaining weight rather then still trying to keep Cowes milk in there diet, most kids grow out of it by the age of 1 and if not by then most of them grow out of it at 3 and most people can start the milk ladder after a month of hydrolysed formula and hydrolysed formula still contains Cowes milk protein so they still have exposure but in safe way to help build there tolerance up x

Yes I’m aware I even tried the milk ladder for my 3rd born, she’s about to be 2 but has a lactose intolerance so the milk ladder didn’t help. Hoping she grows out of it. And not all the hydrolysed ones do actually. Sma alfaamino was stripped out fully of it and only had amino proteins sma alfamino is the top end of the issues with milk formulas
Thanks everyone. Yes I wasn’t suggesting actual goats milk, I meant the goats milk formula. My baby is taking nutramigen and it works for him but I was just curious on the goats milk formula .

there's a difference between hydrolysed formula and amino acid based they aren't same thing, all hydrolysed formula has dairy in it but amino acid based ones have none, amino based acid formulas aren't hydrolysed, hydrolysed formula means to have the dairy hydrolysed. Most babies can tolerate hydrolysed formulas but some babies have reactions to dairy in any form which is when you get amino based formulas which are completely dairy free and lactose intolerant people/child can still consume dairy but it just has to be lactulose free dairy, so lactulose intolerance has nothing to do with milk ladder as milk ladder is for allergic reactions to dairy only, there are no benefits to doing milk ladder for a child who isn't allergic to dairy and only has lactulose intolerance, lactulose is in multiple things beside dairy which is why they aren't related and not treated the same

Yeah so i agree that there’s a difference, and not arguing about what you’ve said - I’m saying hydrolysed didn’t make a difference for me and we had to get the amino based one, which was why i just tried the goats milk one and avoided a lot of allergens in this particular brand that I found my other children to have had allergies too and it seemed to work. All I’m saying is she can try the goats milk and see if it works for her child if she wants to, she knows her child best and found what works if you scroll above so that’s all that matters.
