Pools/ocean

What age is ok to take baby to the pool or ocean/bay?

I bought our 8 week old a swimsuit (full body spf50 ) hat and baby float with a sun cover. Not sure if we could do short stints in the water or need to wait longer?

Personally I waited until 3 months/12 weeks for water related activities.

We are a huge water family and want to start water exposure and infant survival swimming as soon as possible! We took baby in the pool I think at 4 weeks and again at 6. Went splendidly. We will wait quite a bit on the beach, though, considering rip tides and rough waters even in shallow depths in my area. No idea when we will be ready for that. But tide pools and dipping the toes in probably soon!

I’d just say the main thing is to keep an eye on their temp, the entire time. Indirect sun exposure can be really wonderful for babies, but keeping them cool and hydrated is the most important. Offer them feeds right before and after you swim, and constantly check their bodies/backs for temp. Rotate out their water 24/7 in the float so it’s constantly cool versus sitting and becoming super hot. Baby wear in the pool as well if you want!
