Hi,
My baby is 10 weeks old born via C Section and has been quite sick during and after feeding since about 2 weeks old. Currently on lactose free formula with gaviscon for reflux, doctors are talking about trialling her back onto ordinary formula in a few weeks, but she is never settled after her milk. I pace feed and burp her every ounce and at the end of her feed usually bringing up sick with her burps, she is always squirming/gassy and seems generally uncomfortable 90% of the time! She can still bring up vomit or clear liquid (smells sour) an hour after a feed. Also, really strains for a poo and is quite thick pasty/solid even after reducing the amount of gaviscon per day.
The doctors tell me it's just reflux and is normal but it's becoming really unenjoyable as she is just so unsettled 😔
Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated, thankyou.

I didn’t realise this was the CMPA group and I was going to suggest CMPA 😅 definitely worth trying different formula for a few weeks, I think the suitable one is EHF or amino acid if that doesn’t work

Thanks, what is EHF? 🙈 the doctors seem reluctant to change as she's gaining weight but think i need to keep pushing for it

To be honest I googled it because I have no formula knowledge 😅 EHF is Extensively Hydrolysed Formula so the cows milk protein is broken down into smaller bits so their body doesn’t react to it as an allergen, I think Nutramigen is the most common EHF and usually works for CMPA babies, if they still have symptoms after then you can try amino acid formula but I think it’s quite rare for that to be needed, around 10% of CMPA babies. Have a look at this xx

Thanks this is really helpful, hopefully the doctors will change her milk

definitely push for them to prescribe an EHF! Just so you know lactose free formula won’t have any effect on CMPA babies, since being allergic to cows milk protein is a totally different thing to lactose intolerance so the doctors should want to trial an EHF

My baby is the same he went on dairy free formula at 7 weeks but he refused to drink it and his symptoms didn’t improve so went back on normal formula and been on it ever since, he’s sick every time he burps after feeding and continues to bring up milk all throughout the day even hours after feeding, he’s not sick at night as he’s asleep and his body’s more relaxed so the reflux is better even after night bottles he’s not sick as he’s still half asleep, doctors have always put it down to reflux and he’s 6 months old now and still the same, I’m just hoping it gets better with weaning

It is awful isn't it 😢
I've posted in another group and have had a few people say about aptamil anti reflux milk being a real game changer so I'm thinking of trying this! Also omeprezole to help reflux (we haven't tried this)
Hope things calm down for you soon

I can relate to this. My baby is the same, she is sick so often it’s making feeding very difficult. We’ve been prescribed gaviscon as they doctors say it’s just reflux but I’m EBF and currently trialing dairy free, and potentially soy free as I’m noticing increased symptoms since consuming more soy based things since cutting dairy. I don’t think it’s talked about enough, it’s draining!

it is really hard and horrible not knowing how much milk he’s keeping down, I’ve asked for Omeprezole but doctors refuse to prescribe it lying saying he’s too young but I know he’s not they can have it from 1 month it’s just so expensive they won’t prescribe it because it comes out of their budget!
