98th percentile

My boy is just over 4 months old and weighs 8.7kg, he was weighed a month ago and was 7.7kg and was weighed 2 and half weeks before that and was 6.8kg. He was weighed today because the doctor said to go from 6.8kg to 7.7 in 2 and half weeks was a bit extreme so he wanted to re weigh today, so he’s put another 1kg on in a month this time, (it was a health visitor that weighed him this time) she wasn’t worried as she measured the length of him and he’s 67cm, he’s a very tall baby, we got told this from our 12week scan that he would be tall (dad is 6ft2 and I am 5ft7) so this puts him on the 98th percentile almost, I am just bit worried as he is gaining weight quite fast, has anyone had any similar experiences?

I’m in Canada and we use lbs but my son was similar- 99th percentile in all categories- head, height and weight!
He kept gaining and growing fast until he started walking then it slowed down (a bit lol)

My boy is on the 98th centile and he's almost 8 weeks old. He's gone from 4.36kg birth weight to 4.50kg 11 days old, 5.75kg at 4 weeks old and last weigh he was 6.46kg at 6 weeks old. He's also long 61.5cm tall at his last appointment and they aren't worried, he's gaining nicely and said he's all in proportion! We are both tall, around 5ft 8 / 5ft 9. They'd say if they were concerned so I wouldn't worry, he's just a big boy!

At this age it's hard to get a good read. You'll have a much better idea how he's growing as you add more bullet points to chart. I would be more concerned if he was underweight and losing weight. A growing, healthy, chunky baby is not generally a bad thing.

My baby grew at that exact rate. 7.7kg to 8.8kg in a couple of weeks and no one said anything. He was born at 4.2kg and is currently 13.3kg at 11m. Which puts him in the >99/100% lol.

As long as he’s following his own growth curve the % just means that in 100 babies, he would be one of the biggest babies. It doesn’t mean anything negative or poor about health or développement etc.

Thanks everyone for your comments, I am only concerned because the doctor mentioned he was concerned because that was a rapid weight gain in a small amount of time and he wanted to monitor, I asked what would that mean if it keeps rapidly going up? He said well then we would look at ruling out any underlying medical issues… so yeah obviously it’s another rapid weight gain but it’s been a month and I’m not sure what on average babies should be putting on per month… I wouldn’t worry about him personally looking at him, he’s very heavy and solid but physically doesn’t look overweight

Our little man has grown quite consistent but he's a bigger baby too. He weighed 7lbs12 at birth (40+3) and was gaining around 1lb1oz a week (nearly 2kg a month!). He's now 4 months and weighs just over 9kg (98th centile) and 70cm long.
If he's gaining weight quite fast but consistently I wouldn't worry, sign of a healthy baby ☺️ x

My daughter was born 75th percentile then got onto the 95th and is now on 99.5 in her little red book 😭 me and her dad are both relatively short/average and lean but she’s a chunky little muscle machine it’s dead funny. I’m sure your little one will be grand, all babies develop at their own pace
