Flying and the beach with a 4 month old

Hello!

We may be taking a last minute trip from PA to S Florida to help out my MIL who just had a heart attack. Any tips for flying? We will also make a stop at the beach since she lives near some amazing beaches. Any tips for letting him have fun and staying safe?

I don’t have tips for flying but for beach I’d say don’t over complicate it! I’ve been brining my 4mo old to the beach and at first I was bringing all sorts of things (a tent, long sleeve outfit to keep out of sun, MULTIPLE portable fans, a bath chair, an inflatable tub, stroller, carrier) it was too much! This weekend we’ve just been bringing one fan, stroller and even tho she’s under 6 mo, we’ve been doing baby safe sunscreen on just her legs (long sleeve bathing suit and sun hat) and it’s been so much easier and we’ve been able to do longer stretches at the beach! She had so much fun today and did so well!

I just visited Orlando with my 4 month old

-noise blocking headphones
-travel boppy
-feeds when taking off and landing
-have a carrier handy for when you check in stroller
-extra bottles and milk (prep for delays)
-spinners for window
-portable fan
-change diaper before flight (those plane bathrooms are just tiny and stinky)

We just got back from a flight yesterday with our 4 month old.

We are lucky he’s a decent sleeper so he slept through both flights (layover). There were so many delays so we didn’t land back home until 3 am. It was tough on us but he slept the whole time! On the way out to our trip, it was in the middle of the day and he played/slept through both flights. Here’s what we did:

-packed the little Einstein aquarium for when he got fussy (needed it for a few minutes on the way to destination, tiny plane and grumpy baby)
-fed him from the bottle at takeoff
-brought a bunch of little toys that clip on his playmat. We also had him play with crinkle books and oballs since he loves those things.
-we brought our uppababy stroller and checked it at the gate. It was nice to use it during the layover. Since it’s an expensive stroller, we didn’t want it to break so we ordered the uppababy bag for it which covers any damage to the stroller.

We also brought baby Tylenol to help with any ear pain and discomfort. Didn’t need it but it was nice to have with us.
Our guy is a swaddler who is now transitioning to a sleep sack, but it helped to swaddle him tight during the flights!
We also brought distilled water in bottles and sealed formula through TSA. It was super easy! I heard you can bring formula unsealed but I’m paranoid so bringing it sealed helped ease my mind.

I just went from TX to NYC and back with my 4 month old and 5year old.
-the airline you take matters. If you can afford then pay extra for seats with more room
- one piece outfits that also zip from the bottom and bring extra just in case. I think the pressure cause some blowouts lol
- pillow and blanket so baby can lay comfortably in you
-paci, bottle or boob. They will need this for take off and landings.
-if you breast feed. Then easy to access breastfeeding shirts
- body carrier or wrap so that once you check the stroller you can carry baby easier and more hands free
-toys that can hook onto baby or you so they don’t fall in the plane fall (🤢)
-also make sure that everything you need for the flight is in the bag that will be under the seat and easy to access (diapers, wipes, clothes and water and snacks for you)
-and a bag to put stroller/car seat in when you check them at the gate
Baby might sleep most of the flight but they might not so be ready to entertain.
