Swimming

Those of you who take your little ones swimming, do you use any sort of flotation? Arm bands, vest etc?

Thanks!

No, we never have. And personally wouldn't.
Theres a lot of research suggesting that use of flotation aids can be dangerous in the long run as they teach a false sense of security. i.e when you use arm bands, you float vertically in the water. Whereas if they were to fall in, they need to know to lay on their back to float.
Hopefully that made sense! X

Great, thank you both!

We use a pool noodle cut in half and she has one piece under each arm. She’s been doing swimming lessons since 3 months old so she knows how to hold on to them and kick her legs. Our swim teacher always discourages any other types of floats as it teaches them to be in an unnatural position which is less safe.

Agree with these comments. I would avoid any wearable floatation aids. Iv never used them for my baby and she's so confident in the water now, doesn't panic when she gets splashed and its taught her to grab onto the sides to avoid going under.
We sometimes use either a pool noodle or board that she can grab onto if needed. X
