Is it okay to give kids non-alcoholic wine?

So at a celebration today at a friend’s house she gave her 7yo some non-alcoholic wine. Her argument was if a ripe banana can contain up to 0.3% alcohol while the non-alcoholic wine she drinks contain less than 0.1% alcohol, it’s technically less alcohol for her kid than a banana. She called it essentially sour grape juice. She said she only does it for special occasions like today though. I mean her logic is solid but I’m not sure- something about giving a kid wine, I just don’t know lol. Thoughts?

I would think it’s technically safe in terms of not causing intoxication - but I wouldn’t want my child to be confused that wine is a safe drink, especially if it’s the kind of NA wine that comes in an identical bottle.

I don’t see an issue. I grew up around alcohol and I had zero confusion about alcohol. I had “fake” daiquiris and stuff, as an adult I barely touched alcohol. It’s also cultural in places like France and Italy for children to have watered down wine for dinner. I think the European mindset around booze and their relationship with it through is culturally very different to say the US and Australia.

I mean it is probably safe but just seems odd… why not give them actual grape juice, fruit juice, milk, smoothie, etc instead….
I could get a teenager having that but 7 seems odd to be getting fake/non alcoholic alcohol.
Maybe it is just me…

Even though it’s non alcoholic to us the bottles all look the same to them. I can’t have him going around thinking all the wine bottles on the table are for him just because I gave it to him one time. Imagine he asks another adult for a sip of actual wine and his excuse his “well my mummy let me have some!” Lol. He can have a prima

I'd rather give sparkling grape juice

i don’t understand the desire to normalize drinking culture to a child.

i don’t see a issue but at the same time i don’t see this being necessary

plenty of kids pretend to drink, it’s literally a part of childhood, but i’d settle with the white sparkling welch’s grape juice like i had as opposed to something that’s supposed to be advertised to adults.

It’s not for a kid though. You’re still giving him an adult beverage. Give him sparkling grape juice.

It’s safe but I’d probably go for something else like Coke.

I’ve even my daughter Appletiser which is fizzy apple and we’ve pretended it’s fake Prosecco at Christmas 😂 but if never give her actual non alcoholic booze as I don’t see the point/think it’s a bit odd still

I was given extra diluted Shandy's at that age, not that I ever would with my own.

I don't like the idea though it's designed to taste like it and the label reads wine it feels like a gateway of encouragement.

When we have events or occasions my kids usually get shloer or a bougie bottle of sparkling grape juice.
