I currently live in a council property but would like to buy a house in the future. I don’t want to live in the bought house but rather the council
Property as I love the area etc and want my children to grow up here. Am I allowed to buy a property elsewhere but still live in a council estate?

You can’t buy a house and continue tenancy in a council house unless the policies in your local council allow for that. You can look into buying your council property though.

I think it’s best you speak with you local council. If you’re a housing association tenant, I think some of them have a scheme where you rent to buy? But deffo speak to your council and see what your options are.

Check with your local council but I presume once you buy a seperate house you will have to give up your council house.

Have you thought about buying the council property instead since you want to live there anyway?

Just buy the council property?

No, you can't own another property (presumably to rent) and continue living in subsidised housing. Not only would this break the rules of your tenancy, but it is also pretty immoral to occupy a council property that could go to someone truly in need. It's especially morally bankrupt if you intend to rent the other property out!

The right to buy oppurtunity would have been perfect for you but they have reformed so much of the law just last November so the way it is now is no longer worth it as it once was
Thanks guys for the messages. If right to buy had the original discount would have been perfect! But I missed it by a year

No you can't do that and you would be charged with benefit fraud if they figured it out
