Been with my partner 10 years. In all that time, I’ve never met his grandmother. Never spoken to her, never even had a “hello.” The closest thing we have to a relationship is that she added me on Facebook once… and then disappeared like a ghost 😂.
When I announced I was pregnant, she didn’t message me. Nope, she commented on my mother-in-law’s shared post saying she couldn’t wait to be a great-grandmother. Thought maybe this was my moment to finally meet her.
Plot twist: still nothing.
Fast forward: I had the baby. He’s nearly 4 months old. Still radio silence.
Oh, and here’s the kicker… she literally drives past my house EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. And she knows I live here.
So yeah, I don’t have a great-grandmother-in-law… I’ve basically got a Facebook cryptid. 🦶👻
And honestly? I cannot wait for the day she suddenly asks to meet him—because let’s just say, that conversation will be… interesting.

My partner of 10 yrs hasn't even met my dad 🤷🏻♀️
But I'm not bothered by that at all and he isn't making posts on Facebook, and doesn't live near.
I suppose I would look at why it matters to me, and how much, and if it was that important then attempt to make the effort myself. If that doesn't work, or I felt it wasn't worth it, then I'd look to let go and move on.
When it comes to the relationship with my child, same thing. I would be thinking about how beneficial it is for them as having extra people around who love you is wonderful, but you would need to decide if you can accept the capacity for effort that person has and have those expectations.
